If your Mom is in agreement, and there is not some reason like where you live and/or family medical problems that stop your family from dog ownership, get her to talk to your Dad, by herself, or, maybe in a family meeting.

First ask your dad why he doesn't want a dog. Then try and figure out a solution to his problem with having a dog. But first you have to answer yes to these 3 questions. Do you have a yard for the dog? Do you have Time for a dog ( figure spending 4 hours a day with your dog) or you won't want the dog later. Mostly are you willing to scoop poop every day sometimes twice a day and bathe groom train feed water and play with your dog. Be honest maybe you should think about a different pet and if you feed it either breed it or eat it. Pets are great but they need a purpose. They take a lot of time and attention. Have an open discussion with your dad and be willing to take on ALL the responsibility.

I've heard this one from my family so many times..... Oh please dad let us have a dog, we'll all take it out for walks, even when its freezing cold & raining....we promise! Is that similar to the conversation that you've had at your house? Well as much as I like dogs we didn't have one and when my eldest daughter left home & set up house herself the first thing she did was get a dog and for the first couple of months or so she took it walks morning, noon & night. Then she changed jobs which meant that the dog would be in the house by itself for long periods which isnt right so we finished up having it at our house for odd days here & there but now its at our house 7 days a week & even when my daughter comes round she doesnt take it out..... its left to me all the time. You need to think really long and hard& remember the saying.....A dog is for life, not just for Christmas( or whatever the time of year) Dogs live anything from 12 -20 years & sometimes longer so you need to be certain that your interest in a dog is going to last the course

OK i am not telling you to do this but here's my story. my family except my dad wanted a dog too. so one day after millions of dogs looked at we found one right for us. we adopted it and then after we called my dad. he freaked out at first but then he got to know the dog and loved him to death. he still claims he never liked the dog but they always play and chase each other he definitely loves her to death.

nicely ask him, you have your massive canines, why won't be able to I unquestionably have my little canines? in case you would be deciding to purchase each little thing i might think of he does not have a situation with it. My dad did not choose a small canines the two and we've been given a Chihuahua, loves him. i might as him his reasoning's why he does not like them.. Medium sized canines are approximately 30-50lbs. you ought to bypass to the safeguard and come across a super companion there.

Well since your dad is the head of the household his rules go, but try to persuade him to let you get a dog.

Ask him nicely to explain why - and listen to his point of view - then he might listen you.

If you still can't persuade him then wait until you are old enough to have one yourself.

In the mean time why not walk dogs for friends, relatives and neighbours?

Ask him why. Maybe he's afraid he'll eventually be the one taking care of it and doesn't want the extra responsibility. That's his option. He is the Dad?
