He refuses baby food, but he can't quite eat table food. (Weird I know!) He also has about 12 teeth!

He loves crackers and goldfish! ( I give him graduate finger foods and he wont eat those either! I do feed him potatoes, green beans, peas, carrots) What else can I give him? He needs to eat at about 3 meals and about 2 snacks a day. I need some suggestions please!

How about cheese, bananas, applesauce, Cheerios or Kix cereal small pieces of lunchmeat (with supervision)
Don't try to make him eat. Give him options. When he's hungry he will eat on his own.

I actually read an article in American Baby magazine recently about this. They say that you should give a variety of foods such as avacodo, papaya, bagels with cream cheese or light jelly, fortified cereals like cheerios, strawberries, oranges, grapes peeled and cut in half, graham crackers with a little yougurt spread on them, bananas, ravioli cooked and cut up.....
I can think of so many more, I like the idea of giving babies more exotic types of food because not only are they cool colors but they are packed full of nutrients and will teach your baby to experient and enjoy new foods. I hope this helps you, only other advice I can give is to make sure the food seems appealing to your child and you can always share and make mealtimes more fun! Maybe let him "feed" you for a change or teach him colors by saying I am going to eat a red strawberry, can you try a green grape? Good luck!

Obviously, any snack or food you give your baby has to be monitored. You need to make sure you give him very small pieces to avoid choking. Bananas are soft and a good source of potassium. If you give him grapes, cut them in 1/4's, I would not do carrots, unless they are cooked and soft, even green beans and peas can cause choking so portion/size control is important there too. Cheese is good for calcium, again, small pieces! Even with the goldfish, they are pretty hard, and he can easily choke on them as well if he cannot "moosh" them (for lack of a better term) before swallowing. Ask you pediatrician for suggestions as well.

small noodles, really well cooked. Frozen peas, cut up green beans, chunk canned chicken. When my girls stopped liking baby food and wanted texture I'd put rice in the baby food to give it some texture and they liked it. Also let him try to feed himself with a spoon. Give him some babyfood and some other items and a spoon and let him go to town. It's messy, but my girls both were really independent and wanted to feed themselves.
Fruit like mandarin oranges, bananas, pears, peaches, fruit cocktail etc are also really good, easy to eat and soft.

a 1 year old does not need baby food they can eat almost anything, fruit, macaroni, chicken , oatmeal, lettuce, cukes, broc or cauliflower cooked or not, sweet potato fries , honey dew melon, dried apricots, whole wheat toast, cabbage, don't just use finger foods, give them a baby spoon and sit in high chair with oatmeal and soups, it will be a bit of a mess but they will get some in,yogurt, sliced ham or other meats, mushrooms, meatballs, waffles, jello,

ok i thnk that what u r feeding him s ok and that i understand wat yur dealin with i have 1 nephew and 2 neises all close to the sam age and i feed them things like animal crackers as a snack and things like applesauce for a meal with a lil bit of juice and then maybe if they are hungry they get carrots or something later, but the only way to get him to eat more nutrious foods is to reward him with snack foods later.

my son didnt' want baby food either. He started eating regular food right around 12 months as well.

He loved grapes, corn, cherrios, bread, hot dogs, almost anything that I ate he wanted. I just made sure that it was small enough for him to digest.

Soft foods or food that if swallowed whole would not present a choking hazzard.

Hotdog pieces, whole (unpeeled) grapes, hard candy and popcorn are major choking hazzards.

Ask your pediatrician, a phone call usually works for this.

"Baby Let's Eat" is a great cookbook and food guide for feeding babies and toddlers and even your whole family. I forget the author, but I used this book and it's still in print...excellent.
