Yes! Depending on the serverity of infection you may have to see a doctor to treat the child. Keep in mind that ringworm can SCAR - don't be frugal - have it treated. The child will most likely be treated with an antifungal cream and perhaps an oral medication as well. The dog you can treat most effectivly with a 30:1 bleach bath and DO NOT RINSE. For every 30 cups of water add one cup of bleach. This will kill the fungus the fastest - and keep it from spreading to other areas of the dog. You can also treat the spots with any cream made to treat athleets foot. Wash all bedding and toys or anything the dog touches in hot water and bleach. Good luck!

Ok, ringworm is NOT roundworm. Ringworm is not even a worm, it is a fungus, similiar to athletes foot. You can get it from any source, a (public) shower, an infected person, a swimming pool, from swimming in the river, or even walking barefoot outside.
Ringworm: Contagious fungal infection, not a parasitic worm.
Symptoms: Small reddish pimples that gradually spread into round, crusty patches on the skin.
Available Treatments: Anti-fungal medications, topical creams or digestible tablets or liquids.
Possible Causes: Physical contact with an infected individual, human or animal. Also from an infected area.

Yes, ringworm can be past from animal to human and human to animal. Ringworm is a fungal infection not an actual worm. Go to your doctor or ask your local pharmacist for the best anti-fungal treatment for your niece and ask your vet for some anti-fungal for your dog's ringworm.

I don't know if a child can pass a ringworm to a dog but I heard that a dog can pass it to a child if the child touches the area.

I have a dog, and he stayed in the house with us for about a year before my dad put him outside. I also sucked me thumb, and at that age, thought nothing of germs. Would touch the dog, suck my thumb, back and forth. I ended up with worms and had to go to the doctor where they gave me this ointment with a dropper that I had to take 3 times a day. For the dog, they make things for them in the store, but just like humans, every dog is different so it's best to call the vet and ask them what they prefer for your breed.

Yes, indeed it can be passed from animal to human. They have creams for both to kill the worm. I remember when we used to put India Ink on the skin where the worm could be seen and it would seep into the area and kill it, but now there are better methods.
