Conclusion: Thank you everyone for answering my question. I asked the same question to both sides: Greeks and Turks, but not because I wanted to create a fight between them. I did it because I wanted to compare the answers. I'm neither Greek nor Turkish, but I have some experience with both of them and over the years I have noticed that Turks seem to have much friendlier feelings towards Greeks, than the other way around. Most Greeks I know have some kind of hatred towards Turks and that seems to be their national thing, whereas most Turks think they should be friends. I wanted to check if that is true and here are the results: Almost all Turks answered in a very friendly way, some of them were mad at me for even asking this question. On the other hand, many Greeks were reserved and some of them answered with some kind of hostility. I know there were many problems between Greece and Turkey in the past and there still are, but you should blame politics of both countries, not people.

PS.: This question might be common on Yahoo, but I've never asked it before, this is my first time.

Belki yasiniz kucuk hatirlamiyorsunuz.
(may be yo are young and you don't remember)

I am 40 y/o and remember VERY WELL the mass graves in Cyprus just before the Turkish army went up to stop Nikos Sampson. The Greek milita (EOKA-B) massacred Turkish women and children in Turkis villages of Cyprus.

I see hateful Greeks on TV and in real life, swearing to drink Turkish blood. I know who Cengiz Topel is. I know the Greek protectors of ASALA and PKK.. (the terrror groups)

I know the headlines on Greek newspapers in 1995 when a Turkish minister visited the Turkish minority in Greece
(The greek newspapers shouted HA SIKTIR! on their headlines)

The Greeks deny the existence of a turkish minority living in Greece..

And I am supposed to believe that Greeks are nice and kind eh?
No, thanks...

I think the better question would be why do Greeks hate Turks?

As an outsider that spent years in both countries I was always amazed by the pure hate that many Greeks show for Turkey, yet also amazed that this hate was usually not shown by Turks for Greeks. Obviously I never met everyone from both nations but 5 years in Greece and 3 years in Turkey isnt insignificant.

I often wonder what Greeks are taught in school when it comes to things like Anatolia, the Pontian 'Genocide' and Cyprus as too many Greeks have the same arguments, it can only be a systemtaic method of instigating hate. I mean look at the issue with Macedonia, such bile and hatred shown over something so stupid. Look at Cyprus, Makatrios tries to kill all Turkish Cypriots and now the Greek Cypriots are the ones wringing their hands claiming to be the ONLY victims when they brought all their problems on themselves by murdering Turks in the first place.

Personally I would like to see Turkey in the EU and at the same time throw Greece out, at least until they stop the many frauds they use to take billions of Euros out of the EU whilst contributing nothing (oh and the same goes for Cyprus)

First of all, there cannot be a hatred between two nations because they have mixed long long ago. For example me, my grandmother was born in Thessaloniki and I still have part of my roots there. It is the same for the Greeks, too. Our language, lifestyles, culture are very similar.
Secondly, Greeks also don't hate Turks. They are so friendly, so warm like a very close friend to me.
As in every thing, of course there can be some exceptions. But when you look at the majority, there is no hatred.
The two communities have very cute problems like "turkish coffee/greek cofffe", "turkish/greek baklava", "Turks/Greeks are the best in backgammon."

No we don't hate Greeks at all, we like them what we don't like is that some of them still have hatred towards us Turks and its very frustrating. I have met Greeks who wouldn't even talk to me just cos I am Turkish and I have met Greeks they were very friendly and lovely so if we try to generalise the situation I think a Turk has no problems with a Greek, but perhaps some times a Greek has a problem with a Turk,

As a Turk I am always friendly towards them and have no problems if they don't like me...

To Greek friends whatever happened that's happened a long time ago and will not be repeated so please lets be friends... Also stop calling istanbul Constantinople as that sounds very sad and childish sorry I just had to say it...

why? is there any reason? no, of course we dont. they're cool people similar to us. i see Turks-Greeks like English-French people who fighted many years in the past, but, now, they are the best allies. there are some so-called nationalists among each others' people, but, we must ignore them. This friendship will go on to forever!

I don't hate Greeks except for very few fanatic facist maniacs but to be honest I cannot stand such people even if they are Turkish. I never believed a race and be superior or inferior to another one so I can never get where they find grounds for being racist. Believe me majority of Turkish population has no issue with Greek people. If you would come to our country you would be treated quite fine.

Again same kind of questions. It's funny and smells prejudgement. Anyway... My mother side came from Selanik (Θεσσαλονίκη), and father side Girit (Κρήτη) after 1923. And i can say Turks and Greeks are same if we talk about humanity. But those people always provaked by stupid politicians and religious people. They (both of) must learn to use their brains.

And my answer is; if any greek talks to me racist i hate, but if any greek talks to me like human i love them...
