I am a 49 year old male. About five years ago, I had surgery for a hernia in my lower left abdomen (groin) area. The hernia was surgically repaired using mesh. After a two week recovery I resumed my normal activities with no problems. However, within the last year or so, I have experienced periodic, chronic pain in the region. My Doc. indicated the pain was a possible result of scar tissue, but a cat scan revealed no abnormalties. Still, the pain continues. My next step is an MRI. Anyone have any experiences or recommendations here?

Scar tissue is 1 of the worst things about surgery. It grows every year & is painful. I've been operated on 9 times. I had a double hernia, 10 years later i had one on the left side. I can feel the scar tissue in these places. Unless U have another hernia, Ur pain is from the scar tissue unless the mesh has torn. I feel the scar tissue in my back & neck from those surgeries. Hope this gives U something to think about. I hope U feel better.

Barring a return of the hernia, I agree with the doctor. It is probably scar tissue. This will not show up on MRI or CT scans. Local injections into the site are ofter very beneficial for alleviating this pain. Ask for a referral to a pain management physician
