There are two types of Speaking in Tongues. One is for public, the other personal just between God and the individual.

Not all that claim to be able to Speak in Tongues are actually doing it.

Any one that speaks in tongues in public... even in the gathering of the church, there must be someone there that can interpret what is said.

Most misuse this gift to gain status among others. Many claim you have to speak in tongues in order to go to heaven. That's false!

Yes, speaking in tongues is the evidence the Holy Spirit is within you. But, how many are
faking it? Some denominations believe everyone in the church has to speak in tongues,
they put so much importance on this, it turns many away.

If I was to go to another country or region where I didn't speak their language, all of a sudden I start, that is the gift of tongues. There will be some one there that can interpret what I have said.

When I had someone pray for me and they started speaking in tongues... it did nothing for me... I actually lost all respect for that person, because there was no one there that intrepreted what she had said. How do I know she was truly talking to the Father? I didn't! I left that church shortly after that.

* Tongues were a sign that the old Testement was done away with and a new covenant was formed. They existed for a short time and then faded away. Read Acts chapter and read Peter's words that what he and his friends were doing was the DIRECT fulfullment of the prophecy in Joel chapter 2, and since Peter said this and made this claim anyone speaking gibberish today and claiming it to be what Joel said is lieing and are false.

Read Acts chapter 2 and you find that tongues were languages spoken by uneducated men who had not studied these languages, not some gibberish. *

It's important to LDS missionaries serving around the world to be able to speak and teach others about God in their native languages.

Missionaries learn very fluently languages from Spanish to German to Hungarian in just 2 months time. To me, that is the gift of tongues.

I have linked an article below about missionaries serving in the Marshall Islands who are able to speak in the language of the people there

Although tongues are not required to enter into Heaven here is my understanding of it's purpose:

*Praying for God's Will In My Life...*
Rom. 8:26-27
In the same way the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to Pray for, but, the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
And He who searches our hearts knows the Mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the Saints in accordance with God's Will.

My Thoughts:
I don't think/believe that changing the above words such as we/us, or our, to me/I or my, (making it more personal) will actually change the meaning of these verses. So the reason for Tongues is to build US up in our most HOLY Faith...thus tongues, the Holy Spirit ,speaking through us to our Father in Heaven is actually interceding for us to help us become stronger in our Faith in Christ the Lord.
Nothing humbug or false about it. If it is real. Remember Satan can read too, and he is a deceiver of many, father of lies, he comes only to destroy our faith in Christ. (because he already knows he is defeated). Tongues are speaking in different languages unknown to us personally, also tongues can be a language known only in Heaven. That is just my belief. You choose to believe what you choose to believe.
All things can be answered by God in HIS time and if we truly seek the answers.

It is a gift, not any ones claim.
It is one of the many gifts.
It was originally given as a sign of supernatural to the non- Christians.
It is important now where people can not understand any other langauge.

Peace!
It is one way God communicates with us. St. Paul wrote about it in his letter to the Corinthians. Speaking in tongues should not be forced because it comes out naturally.

Are you talking about speaking in tongues - "glossolalia". I don't think it's that important; but it is a sign from God.

Its not
Math 6:7 And when you pray do not keep on babbling like pagans for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them for our Father knows what you need before you ask him.
