As with any other business, it varies. New pilots with a smaller commuter airline will be paid approximately $24,000/yr. Their pay increases with seniority and the complexity of the aircraft they operate. A commuter airline senior captain will be paid $50,000-$75,000.yr on average.
A pilot for a major airline will have a starting pay of $50,000-60,000/yr and a senior captain will be earning in the area of $180,000-240,000/yr.
These pay rates are actually not salaries. Pilots are normally paid by the flight hour and a "typical " airline pilot flies 80 to 100 hours a month.

Ryan A: When you said you were a commercial pilot are you sure you "meant commercial pilot"? Are you sure you didnt mean "liar"?
Pilots can spell. Pilots also know that they can't work every day (Federal duty-time limitations make sure this does not happen) And you are not paid by the flight
Commercial pilot pay starts at the very low end and goes way up. There are many different jobs commercial pilots can do and airline flying is only one of them. Airline pilots can typically expect to make about $14,000 their first year and will top out at $200,000 or so (give or take) depending on the aitline they work for. It takes years to get to this point though, and you cannot expect to make a lot of money right away.
One of the more lucrative jobs is being a corporate or charter pilot flying business jets. You typically have to invest a lot more time, but are paid more to compensate you for it. Many corporate pilots start in the $65,000 range and go up from there, though the top end is probably not as high as the airline world pays.

Depends on who they work for and how long they have worked there. Also it depends on if they are a co-pilot or a captain. It is all about rank and senority. Different airlines pay different amounts. A safe bet over all would be to say around $100,000 a year. Some make less and some make up to $200,000 if they work for a great airliner and have been around a long time... New hires probably make way less than $100,000. Depends on how much they work also as they are paid depending on the hours they work too...
