Is it true that exersizing at night helps kick-start your metabolism so it is higher at night - when normally your metabolism is slowing down at that time of day? Does this promote faster weight loss? If not, why?

I would say it would depend on if your a morning person or a evening person. You will be more successful in your element.
Typically a late workout definantly keeps your metabolism working longer but because its naturally slowing down it may be
more stressful to stay consistent and with stress comes a rise in
Cortisol levels which promote weight gain. A morning workout will
elevate your metabolism Higher throughout your day , which leads to faster weight loss but may decrease energy levels early
causing some to reach for those Forbidden snacks to make it through the Day.Either way Stay in your Element and consistency
will bring results !!

Hi there. In the overall scheme of things, it does not matter when you work out - whether it be 6AM or 11PM. Personally, I like to hit the gym first thing in the morning, because it gets my system revved and I feel energetic through the day which is when I really need it. It is true that your metabolism naturally slows down towards the end of the day. However, if you exercise at night, even though your metabolism will spike, there's a good chance that your metabolism will slow back down while you're sleeping - unless you've engaged in exercise that elevates metabolism for long periods such as intense weight lifting. In terms of weight loss, whether you work out in the morning or in the evening shouldn't matter. It's really just a matter of preference - I chose to work out in the morning because it's what I prefer - some prefer evenings because of their schedule or it's the time when the gym is less crowded. What really matters is that you are exercising, period! Good luck.

There isn't any evidence that exercising at one time of the day is any more beneficial to the metabolism or promoting weight loss than another.

However, there has been research that has found that people who exercise in the morning have a higher likelihood of sticking with it than those who exercise in the PM.

Just a thought---if you're leaving for a meditation retreat, why are you so concerned about weight loss? Anways...you should lose a good 10 lbs, but beware that you don't put it right back on again when you get back. Stick to your veggies & fruits (among other foods, of course) and establish a good exercise regime. Drink lots of water (it will keep you thinking about eating right) Have a good time, focus on what you're supposed to be focused on, and be prepared to be changed!

Exercising in the morning will start off your metabolism, start your calorie burning and you will enhance it through out the day. And it will do same at night, but since you will most likely just rest or sleep after wards then you wouldn't be burning calories like you would during the day. Also exercise in the morning will energize you for the day ahead.

its matter of doing it at all... why not do both, u'll loose weight faster.... 45 mins seems to be the optimal time for exercise do it before work and after work for 2 weeks u'll see :)

exercise has nothing to do with metabolism, its more to do with what food u eat, when u eat it and how much of it you eat...

if u swallow a piece of thick chicken breast without chewing its definately gonna be longer to break down then smaller quantity, so ur better of eating half and eat another half in 3-4 hours..
if you eat an apple it'll break down alot faster then u'll drink a glass of milk beause of the different property of the proteins and vitamins in it.. know what i am saying ? xD

They are both the same. Exercise burns the same amount of calories at anytime, and that is what helps you lose weight. So do it whenever you can. The fact that you do it is much more important than when you do it.
