a lot of women get them, it hurts to pee, and it sucks, its an infection caused by bacteria, you can get them from being in a hot tub, to even wearing thongs. If you have one just drink a lot of water and cranberry juice and go to the drug store to get azo standard. If it isnt better within a week go to the doctor and he/she will prescribe medicine.

Urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections, commonly called UTIs, affect millions of people each year – especially women. One woman in 5 will develop a UTI during her lifetime. Some women suffer recurrent UTIs. Recurrent UTIs in healthy, non-pregnant women is defined as 3 or more episodes of UTIs during a 12-month period.
UTIs are caused by bacterial infections in the urinary tract. Most of these infections occur when E. coli bacteria, commonly found in the intestines and colon, cling to the opening of the urethra and begin to multiply. Other times the infection can result from bacteria transmitted during sex or by the use of catheters or tubes that are placed in the bladder during medical treatment. Doctors commonly perform a urinalysis to identify the presence of a urinary tract infection. The presence of bacteria, as indicated by a positive culture, indicates an infection. When the culture is negative, it usually means that there is no infection. However, if the symptoms persist, other tests can be performed.

"Your urinary tract is the system that makes urine and carries it out of your body. It includes your bladder and kidneys and the tubes that connect them. When germs get into this system, they can cause an infection.
A urinary tract infection is not much to worry about if you are a healthy person. But you need to treat it right away because it can do very serious damage to your kidneys if it gets worse."
I took this information directly from WebMD website. I've had several UTI's in the past and they're not fun. It is important to call your doctor for treatment.
A few tips to avoid UTI's that have worked for me.
- Drink water on a daily basis.
- Pee after intercourse.
- Make sure after going number 2 (poop) to wipe in the direction away from your vagina and the opening of your urethra ("the tube that carries urine from your bladder to the outside of your body").

I saw the other posting, it is not in anyway to be associated with sexually transmitted diseases and unless your partner is a guy and he pees in you, if he's clean he is normally not going to give it to you, but most guys when they have them hurt too bad to have sex.
A Urinary tract infection simply means that somewhere in your kidneys, and the tubing, so to speak that runs from there down to the opening in a females urithia or the penis opening in a male. Though you can spread it to a partner, that isn't normally how you get it. It's just an infection. People who do not drink enough water are more likely to get them as without enough fluid the kidneys do not function as well, so infections are more common. Poor diet can make them more likely as well as being a diabetic, as I am, can make them very common, especially if the diabetic doesn't keep their Glucose, sugar, within normal ranges.
It's treated with antibiotics adn normally will be completely gone within two weeks. Antibiotics are normally prescribed for seven to fourteen days, depending on how severe the infection is and what strains of bateria they see in the urine.

It's an infection of the urinary tract caused by bacteria - it can be caused by many things, for some people when it rains or they are exposed to long periods of dampness or by suppressing the urge to urinate and holding it in and/or lack of sufficient water intake (drinking lots of water can flush out the bacteria before it get a foot hold).
If you have an infection then it will cause pain and discomfort in your bladder and when you urinate. If you have an infection you will need to take a anti-biotic and I find that drinking cranberry juice or pills everyday will keep the bacteria from clinging to the walls of the bladder and it will be flushed out etc. It works and is doctor/AMA recommened

It is like catching a cold, but it is in your urethra - that's the tube that carries urine ("pee") from your bladder out. It is very painful. Women can get urinary tract infections if they do not urinate after sexual intercourse. Men can get urinary tract infections associated with prostate enlargement. See your doctor for more information or if you think you have one.
