I have a Cockateil also, I have had Charlie for about 6 years and he is a screamer also. What I do is talk to him pet his head, he comes out alot also. The other answers are right do not yell at her she has no idea why you are and she is getting the attention. When you cover her up leave a peek spot so she can see still because they do get afraid if they can,t see whats going on. Charlie does most of his screaming when my husband comes home and if he does not go and speak to Charlie right away he will continue to scream. Another thing if the cage is by the window move it or place it so the bird again can see out. Create a schedule with her give her treats and talk to her eventually she will mimic you.

1) is the bird weaned? Have you checked to make sure that she is eating and drinking?
2) cockatiels make noise. They can get quite loud but it is a pleasant sound. She might be screaming for attention. have you tried to hold her and love on her?
3) are you absolutely positive that it is a female? Hens are generally very quiet. I have 2 hens that rarely make a peep.

At any rate, first make sure that all of her needs are met. If you haven't already you might try putting her cage against a wall so that she will feel more secure. Get her on a schedule. Cover her cage at 9pm at night and then uncover it at 9 am. this gives her 12 hours of nighttime which is perfect. Is her cage large enough? It should be at least 18x18x24. Do you have her next to other cages with birds in them? At any rate, tiels make noise. They aren't terribly loud but they do chatter. They're not as bad as quakers or conures because they don't really have they high pitch ear piercing screeches. but, they do like to chatter and sing, and sometimes bawk. Sounds like you've either got a bored tiel or a happy tiel. get her on a schedule this should help a bit. Remember, tiels love human attention and need at least 2 hours per day of your time. If your bird is this vocal you might start trying to teach it talk by recording your voice saying the same thing over and over. If she learns to talk (most hens do not) the talking will replace the screaming.

Is she hand tamed?
if she is she is used to getting a lot of attention and she wants to be held. Give her some attention and hold her.
If her wings are clipped and she is hand tamed you might want to try leaving her cage open while you are home. After I did that with my female cockatiel she was much quieter. She was content flying around the house and doing what she wanted...make sure to keep an eye on your bird though..they like to go places they shouldn't go. Keep the bathroom door shut..they can drown in the toilet. Just make sure you are watching her and she will be very happy. Say no to her when she goes someplace she shouldn't or even near a place she shouldn't and move her away. Pet her and give her treats when she goes places she is allowed. After a while she'll know her boundaries and you can keep less of an eye on her. Just like other pets birds have to be trained. You will have to clean up her poop though!
Your bird also might be loud because she hears birds outside and is trying to communicate with them. My bird loves squawk at other birds...so close the window if you want her to be quiet.

Cover her only at night and remove cover at the SAME time in the morning. Talk to her for a few minutes at different times during the day (try to have a little schedule going). It's important that she does not get bored. Put lots of toys in her cage (be sure they are safe and for cockatiels). She is going to make noise; that is part of having a bird.

Why would you get a bird if you didn't want the noise? Getting a bird is like ASKING for noise.

What you can do to /discourage/ this is ignore it. One reason birds squawk is for attention, and if you give them that attention, even by yelling at them, they realize that their loudness gets a response from you. That's exactly what they want. Ignore her if she's squawking and praise her when she's quiet.
At night time, put a cover over her cage. She won't chirp at night time and she won't realize it's night unless you give her total silence and darkness in whatever room she's in.

She wants to sit on your head or shoulder. They need a lot of attention since they are very social birds. My female cockatel's favorite song was Whole Lotta Love by Led Zepplin.

definite, they are in a position to assessment to talk. this isn't any longer hassle-free. My chicken started, and then only close down. Take and record words on a recorder. Then play the recordings usual. this is least puzzling to start with 2 syllable words like: infant, Daddy,hi,funds etc. it ought to take an prolonged time. It takes dedication.

Yes are they getting enough attension? they say that birds should be out at least 2 hours a day. to stop the squawking you should ignore the skwaking and praise him when he's quiet.

haha! How much time are you spending with her? Birds are like toddlers--they require a lot of attention. If they don't get it, they develop habits like what you are describing. If you didn't want to hear the bird making noises, why did you get one in the first place?

most birds, especially cockatiels (cuz i have 1) need alot of attention. talk to her and say lots of good things and maybe try to hand feed her then she will gain trust in you and wont be afraid. she is probly yelling so much becuase she is not used to her surroundings and she is really afraid. She;s just probly afriad of you.
