but Christians do it out of genuine concern. even if they were wrong, their motives are genuine. it seems to me that most non-believers' comments are simply disrespectful. what does this say about us as people?

As a Christian I do say stuff to people to get them to walk with the Lord and the Bible instructs us to say they will go in the hell's fire if they don't accept the Lord.
However, I don't like the ones that pushes others around and makes them feel ashamed of themselves. I seen a comment here that the lady was told she was a devil and her kids are basterds and so on because she isn't a Christian and does other things. I really don't think any children are basterds or anyhing of the devil.
I know there are lots of religions out there however, if your comfortable with your own religion or Faith it's only between you and the Lord. Don't pay attention to judgemental Christians.

Their motives are purely selfish, and their actions are wrong. I am so sick of Christian apologists trying to make excuses for ignorant behavior and turn it around to make non-believers the bad guys. It is not disrespectful to speak out against religion. The time for religious people to automatically be accorded more respect than others, simply because of their faith, is over.

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps atheists are concerned about delusional people, with irrational beliefs, believing in Hell in the first place? Or are we just too "disrespectful" to care about our fellow human beings, like those "genuinely concerned" Christians. Give me a break. Genuine concern does not involve being OK with the idea of other people burning in Hell.

Yeah, some Christians say it out of concern but others say it as a way to show general disgust for non-Christians. You know that's true. I've had people tell me I was going to hell while they had such a look of complete hatred on their face. There are Christians that want other people to be 'saved' because they are disgusted by the non-Christian 'lifestyle' and they do not want 'those people' tainting their Christian lives or their children. It comes from a selfish place. They are more concerned with with changing their surroundings into something they approve of rather than trying to genuinely help others. I think the comments made by non-believers are mostly referring to the Christians who are not being so genuine and caring about the 'going to hell' thing.

I did have a Christian friend once who nicely told me that she needed to tell me that I was going to hell. She admitted she felt very bad for 'annoying' me about it but she felt it was her duty because she cared about me. I told her I wasn't interested in hearing about it and she said that made her 'sad' but she understood. We never spoke of it again and everything was cool. I know she felt she had to tell me and I wasn't bothered by that.

You know, if a Christian sat me down and had an actual heart-to-heart conversation with me, telling me of the "dangers" and so-on about what I believe in, then I can kind of see what you mean.
However, most of the time I get "You're going to hell", "You worship Satan" etc. I can't possibly see that as love and concern.

It's sad but most Christians make their religion out to be like some sort of fan club, and if you're not in it you're not cool, thus, you get made fun of.

The whole reason I stopped going to church (and trust me, I've been to a lot of churches) is because I always felt like I was going though highschool all over again. It's not pleasant.

I'm sorry but I have never seen genuine concern from any xtian....except for other xtians of their denomination. They are disrespectful, rude and condescending. They tell others they are going to hell out of superiority and as a defensive form of emotional blackmail. Because they were scared into conversion....they think others will be too. Do you realize that these ppl actually tell their little children about hell and that they have to believe like Mommy and Daddy or else they will be sent to hell and never see their parents again? It's abusive and horrible to those of us that have real morality and our sanity intact.

Xtianity scars everything it touches. If xtians find my real and true opinion disrespectful then I'm sorry....for them.

We're idiots.. We live in a very mixed culture and some people dont know when to shut up.

You say im going to hell, I say your living a lie that you REALLY want to beleive. You were taught religion at an early age. Karl Marx once said "IF i have a child at age 5, they are mine forever" Which is basically true to you. You likely Beleive Exactly what your parents want you to beleive. And in reality, its not a bad thing. Christianity Teaches Hope, Kindness, caring for others, etc. But the fact is your being mislead. Proof? ITS ALL BLIND FAITH! There is no solid evidence that Christianity is the "True" religion. And for people to say "You just KNOW!!!@!" that God is real and christ died for your sins that is Bologna. There are Billions of Non Christian beleivers out there who are just as or even more devoted to their religion as you are to yours. Christianity is easy mode! go to the link in my source to see what its like to be a moslim.
And Lastly, Do you really think that god would send all the nonbeleivers to hell? The worlds only around 30% christian. To beleive that is just foolish..

Thats the kind of stuff i say to people who talk to me like that. It really bugs me when people try to preach to me.

One big reason people dont like to talk and hear about religion is that its simply not P.C. to do it. Its a big cultural defense mechanism. Basically I dont want to hear your spiritual beliefs, you dont want to hear mine... so, hows the weather?

You have bought into the Heaven-Hell story and are caught in a downward spiral into a web of control. Now you have some sense of how a fly feels when trapped in a Picture Plant. Have you looked into alternate afterlife scenarios?

It says that believers care and unbelievers do not care.

Better a good person warning people of the consequences rather than staying silent! Staying silent helps neither you nor the unbeliever!

It's just as wrong for Non Beleivers to say there is no God. There is no CONCRETE proof of that assertion!

It's also wrong to call a book fiction.

I have a book.

It's fiction.

It's Dr. Hoyle's Astronomy text and IT SAYS CONSLUSIVELY there are 9 planets in the Solar System and PLUTO is one of them.

Total fiction in Today's world!
