Daughter has asthma, eczma, hayfever, allergies etc, now diagnosed coeliac by blood test. Hospital appointment in May, do I switch to gluten free now? which I understand will effect results the hospital gets when they see her, of carry on until May and told what to do. Also, could this cause her asthma to be so unstable? She has been bad for about three months now, on oral steroids etc.
All help much appreciated.

I'm assuming the hospital want to continue your daughter on gluten so they can carry out a biopsy. They will look at the damaged gut and confirm 100% whether it is coeliac. The blood test is the first part of the diagnosis with the symptoms.
If you stop gluten now and they do a biopsy then the gut will start healing and they will not get a proper diagnosis.
It is a difficult balance. You need to speak to the consultant asap. They are used to this. It is a very stressful and horrible time but they need to diagnose the disease accurately as it is for life.
They usually can do biopsy after 6 weeks. The most important thing is communication.
Stress in the entire family is making her asthma worse. Is she on dairy?

How old is your daughter? There is often failure to thrive with this disease.

If you can afford it, I would pay for a private doctor and get her in to see the doctor immediately. I am assuming you are in England or some place where there is nationalized medicine.

Yes, do put her on the gluten free diet and just tell the doctors when you get to see them. Why make her suffer for another 4 months? Not reasonable.

People die from asthma and it's not to be taken lightly.

Also, you can look up celiac or coeliac disease and learn a lot about it in the meantime.

What advice did the doctor give you when you got the blood results back? Make an appointment with your daughters GP - in the meantime make sure your daughter gets a gluten free diet until you are told otherwise. I don't know how this affects her asthma as I'm no expert - my son has allergies and I know if he comes in contact with anything he is allergic to it causes his asthma to flare up so it possibly could be linked. Safer to make an appointment with your gp as I know from experience how bad communication can be with health services in circumstances like this. Good luck

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

That's a very long time to "wait" for a hospital based work-up.You say her asthma is worse ? Personally, I would present to the ER and demand her to be seen, evaluated, and admitted to get this sorted out.If your not pleased with her MD,find another.I would also find a "children's" hospital nearby and go there. They seem to do much better dealing with sick children than the "general" hospitals do.Some also treat kids regardless of the parent ability to pay. Take care. SW RNP

Call the hospital and ask. If they plan on doing a scope you will not want her to go gluten free as that will negatively affect the test. Go to www.celiac.com and join their message boards.

It would help to know her age, but if the test has been done and she has been proven to have the autoimmune disease called celiac disease, you need to take her off gluten now to prevent further problems.
