The driver's side wiper stopped working properly.
It will either go only half way across my windshield or it goes too far and gets stuck. It's almost as if the sensor that tells it when to stop, doesn't work. But why would it sometimes only go half way over then go back to the start position. Most of the time it gets caught in with the passenger side wiper.

The passenger side works fine but the other one (of course the one I need), has a mind of it's own.

I have cleared out all ice accumulated around the blade, however, I did have the problem well before the snow hit. I will be taking it in to be fixed but I want an idea of what it could be so I am not charged for work that doesn't need done. Or maybe it's something I could fix........
If you had this prob before or have fixed it before, please help.

The wiper arm nut has become loose, the blade may have been froze to the windshield and the motor moved and the blade didn't. First thing todo is not use it till its fixed. First lift the plastic piece off the bottom wiper arm. Place the wipers where they should be and try tighten the nut that is under that cover. If it is still not working right get a new wiper arm and do that. Most of the time it can be fixed without replaceing the wiper transmission assembley.

Common issue with the wiper parts just wearing normally can cause this.. mostly seen in high use (say in the wet south and NW) or high load conditions (snow country) after a few years.

You need a wiper transmission (but most get the whole wiper motor assy with the wiper transmission) to fix... sometimes you can move the arm down to fix it, but it will usually hit the bottom instead of the rubber at the top

the windshield blades run off a common linkage more then likely the splines that the drivers side blade are on have stripped because of using the wipers when it was froze or when something was holding the drivers side blade.Or someone grabbed it and stripped the gears to be a goofus

the arm that connects to the post may be stripped in side if so you need a new one
