In looking for a cheaper place, I would expect it to have a good reputation. I heard that there may be a place through a vet school or university but want help finding it...I would rather keep the cats in heat then risk them...

I suggest calling around. I called my regular vet last week. Spaying was $67, but she told me they were having a special spay day for $35 next wednesday. I took them up on it.

Also in the U.S. at the end of Feb. most vets have a spay day where for one day to a week they have reduced rates to get animals spayed.

You might also contact your humane society, sometimes they can get you a cheaper price or tell you of a certain vet that has cheaper rates.

There is even a vet clinic here that if you do 20 hours of community service at the humane society they will give you a spay for half price I think. Just call around and ask.

I'm in the UK, so am not sure if this will help, but we have a few pet charities over here that will help with veterinary bills if you are on a low income - in some cases they will pay 100%.

Give your vet a call & ask if there is a charity in your area. Failing that, if you explain the situation to your vet, perhaps they would allow you to pay for the treatment in installments.

Getting your cats spayed is the responsible thing to do, so I think you'll find you get a positive response.

All the best.x

Some humane societies will have low cost spay/neuter clinics several times a year.

But, the best thing to do would be to get recommeditions from friends and family about who they use for a Vet.
Going for the cheapest is not always the best thing to do.
While some very good Vets do have low prices, I wouldn't just pick someone based on that alone.

I wouldn't necessarily find a "cheap" one, but one that is known for safety. Some places don't charge much but are not as careful with your precious baby. I know money is tight for all of us, but make sure the place is reputable.

Call around because prices do vary. I find the further away from the city you get, the cheaper it gets.
You may also have to do vaccinations and blood work depending on the age.
