I've been taught that Salvation is what gift Christ provided for us. I've also been taught that we have to work towards that act of Salvation, not just believe He did it, in order to go to Heaven at our death..

That is a classic theological Q. I believe that Christs work was complete on the cross and that once we have made confessed him as LORD, we have that salvation in the fullest. Therefore when we work, we are only doing what is in Gods nature and what he expects of us and building up reward in Heaven. We are NOT earning salvation as we go. That is a trick of the devil because what is at the end of that road is failure and self-condemnation.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— -Ephesians 2:8

Sounds like you answered your own question. How can you work for something that someone provided for you? To say that one must work for salvation is blasphemy. It is to say that God was not capable of providing an adequate solution and that He need our help. What bull! God has never needed anything we can provide. Our righteousnesses are as used maxi pads (translation of the original Hebrew) in His sight. How can we do anything for God? How ridiculous. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (the person and work of Christ on the cross) and you shall (not might possibly) be saved." The Greek used in this verse also indicates that "saved" means to be saved and keep on being saved forever. It is in the Greek aorist tense. If having faith for a moment in time is considered work, and it's not, only then would you have to work toward salvation.

We get saved by the mercy and grace of God, through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Paul tells how to become a Christian and James, the half brother of Jesus, goes nor into detail what is expected from us once we already are Christians. It is a daily walk with Christ. Deeds are required from Christians but we are not saved by them so that we would not boast.

I believe that we have not accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior if we are not going to do good. We all fall short from the glory of God. That is why we need Jesus for our salvation.

We are saved by grace, not by works, so that no one can boast.
We are saved by grace alone. Recall that in Acts 16:31 the jailer asked Paul and Silas how to be saved. They responded, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." The jailer believed and immediately became saved.
Close to 200 times in the New Testament salvation is said to be by faith alone - with no works in sight. Consider the following:
John 3:15 tells us that "everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
John 5:24 says, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."
In John 11:25 Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies."
John 23:46 says, "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."
John 20:31 says, "But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
If salvation were not by faith alone, then Jesus' message in the Gospel of John - manifest in the above quotations - would be deceptive, stating that there is one condition for salvation when there are allegedly two - faith and works.
I must emphasize that we are saved by faith for works. Works are not the condition of our salvation, but a consequence of it We are saved not by works, but by the kind of faith that produces works.

Eph 2:8-10 God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this: It is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Many people seem confused on this. The gates of Heaven had been closed to all of mankind since Adam & Eve fell from grace. It was only by Christ's sacrifice that we were redeemed.

This does not mean salvation is automatic. Jesus said, "Not everyone who calls me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do what my father in heaven wants them to do. When the judgment day comes, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! In your name we spoke God's message, by your name we drove out many demons and performed many miracles!’ Then I will say to them, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me you wicked people!’ Mt 7:21-23

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

it is wrong.every man has the power to choose his way.God showes us the way but it deppends on us if we follow it or not. we should not look up at Christ as the man who died for us.we should see what he tried to teach us. that we are free and death is not the end and that we are capable of so much but we must use it wisely. he did not die for us, he died because of us but that was ment to be. because that way he showd us what we all are capable of. Christ was the example of the ideal MAN.Salvation was not provided by Christ. GOD gave us that. Salvation comes from your decisions and what you do in life. listen to your heart because GOD is in all of us. just look into your heart. when you can feel GOD enside you and when you are capable only of good thats when you will really find SALVATION.(romanian teenager)

Contrary to the idea that you are saved by grace after everything you can do, God’s Word says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the GIFT of God, NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8,9). There is only ONE kind of salvation in the Bible. It is a gift God wants to give you, the forgiveness of all sins. You cannot work for a gift.

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, then you will seek out the rest. The Holy Spirit will guide you toward doing what's right. And if you don't you will have guilt. That is a sign you are on the right path. Any way, it is written that if you believe in Jesus and what he came for then you are saved. The rest will follow.

Christ is salvation. Period, end of sentence.

Works are the only thing you can take with you from this flesh life.
We are to produce fruit for the harvest.
