We eat them, grow them, cut them down for cattle farms, cut them down to plant crops, genetically modify them, cultivate exotic varieties, introduce exotic varieties like the kudzuu vine which outcompete native varieties, provide carbon dioxide for them by our respiration, poison some of them when we cause acid rain through industrialization ( particularly a problem in the Adirondacks), pick them to impress significant others, introduce pest insects that eat them, and occasionally cause evolution in pest insects so that they are harder to control and then more likely to eat plants.
We do lots to plants, and not a terribly lot of friendly, greatful things when you think of all the nice things they do for us--slope stabilization, wind breaks, nourishment, flood prevention and hurricane protection in the marshlands.

People grow and harvest plants, they cultivate plants, they breed plants, they eat plants, they nurture plants, they cut down plants for housing and to build parking lots, and they leave them alone too.

I affect my plants a lot when I forget to water them. They don't like it when I neglect them that way so to annoy me they drop their leaves all over my living room!

But I get revenge by pruning off their longest branches! mwahhh hah hahahah!
