can live a total and completely sin free life or as sin free as humanly possible be sent to hell because he's never heard of christianity while an evangilist in America that sins up a storm just simply has to ask forgiveness and he's off to heaven. Now I know what your good book says but I am looking for a common sense explanation for this.

It's time to repost one of my favorite jokes:

Years ago, a Christian missionary went out to convert the Inuits in the remote reaches of present day northern Canada. This missionary met a wise old fisherman and told him the story of Jesus. He explained to the old Inuit that his soul could only be saved by accepting Christ as his personal savior.

The old Inuit pondered this for a moment and said to the missionary "My ancestors never heard of Jesus and did not know they needed to accept Him in order to be saved. Does this mean they went to this place you call Hell?"

The missionary replied, "No, God does not condemn those who are ignorant to His teachings."

The old Inuit then asked, "Would I have gone to hell if I had not met you and been taught about Jesus?"

The missionary told him he would not have gone to Hell either. After a long moment of thought, the Inuit looked at the missionary with a puzzled expression.

"Then," the he asked, "Why did you tell me?"

You have several problems with your analogy because it depends on steroetypes, false assumptions, and not knowing the Scriptures.

A. Not all evangelists are evil hypocrites. This is how they are portrayed in the media to give religion a bad name. Suggesting that all Christians are evil is about as smart and objective as saying "all black people are stupid." Neither are true.

B. People are not good to the core but FALLEN. Ever notice how evil the world it is and how selfish and disfunctional the people in it are? If people could be good on their own merits, Jesus wouldnt have had to come. But we all sin and fall short of the glory of God.

C. The Bible does not teach that people that have never heard of Christ are going to hell. That is an assumption made by people who are ignorant of the Gospel. What the Bible teaches is that people that are GIVEN the Gospel and reject it go to hell. If you read Romans 1 youll find that people have always been responsible to God for the level of knowledge that they recieve and God expects different things of different people. But the one thing we are very sure of, is that people who openly deny the Gospel will not be saved. The person that has lived their life in ignorance of the Gospel still has a chance to be saved.

If the tribesman has never heard the word of christ and has never heard the miracles of God and has never had the opportunity to choose this way then I doubt that he will go to hell. Hell is for those who know and deny. Just my thoughts. All sins are forgiven, and no one said any man is perfect.

A couple of historical items. There was no "Ubangi" tribe, Ringling Bros circus invented that name by picking an exotic-sounding word off a map of Africa to describe a group of people with lip-plates, who they took to North America to be freaks in carnival side-shows. Then later the word was used by people who wanted to use "the n-word" but knew it was not socially acceptable; for instance W C Fields used "Ubangi in the fuel supply" in place of "n- in the woodpile" in a film in 1939. So possibly you'll want to stop using the term.

Different sects of Xty have answered your question differently. All the way from saying that "pious heathens" would be welcomed in heaven, to saying that only a certain number of people, based on their descent from Abraham, regardless of their faith or behaviour, would ever be allowed into heaven. So there is no one answer.

Actually, Jesus says,

"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?'
Then I will declare to them solemnly, 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.' " Matthew 7:21-23

What matters is to do good, not to have this or that belief.

You're looking for a common sense explanation to christian dogma?
Good luck with that.
You may as well ask for proof of god while you're at it. You won't get either, since neither exist...
