This is a type of winter storm that brings bitter cold air, and light, drifting snow to the northeast U.S. This system blows in from the northwest --seemingly coming from Alberta, Canada. We often nickname this system as the "Alberta Clipper". I have heard that other parts of the country call this a "Blue Norther".
