Can anyone give me advice -- who to write to and how to word the letter if a letter will do as he will need to take time of work and get a train as the court is 70 miles away. Thank you

If your son received a written document(citation from the court ) to write a letter of apology, the name of the Jude/officer will be on the document. There should also be a phone # as to the location where he is to appear. I do not know the age of your son but he must be of legal age to consume alcohol, or there would have been serious consequences. A letter of apology is a gift,he should be thankful. Let him write it, saying he knew he made a mistake and will not do it again. I hope he IS truly sorry. As for missing work, well....that will be a costly lesson for him. Maybe it will be enough to teach him a lesson to become more responsible. Good Luck! From a mom of a 21 year old son.

Try Get Connected (on the Internet). Frankly, the court is not interested in how 'good' the letter is in terms of grammar, language used, spelling etc, but is looking for an indication that he is sorry, understands what he has done, and can see why he should not have done it. If he writes it, he has to think about the offence, and that is the point of the letter.

Don't you know; If you drink a beer in public the terrorists win!

No, I do not have any ideas of how to write a letter of apology for drinking a beer in public. If it is as simple a offense as you portrait there seems to be no tolerance for anything, so he may want to sound sincere in his apology! If he doesn't like the policy against drinking beer in public, maybe he should put down the beer and fight the policy.

Obviously it must be against the local bye laws to drink alcohol in the street - he should speak to his solicitor who will explain about taking responsibility for his actions. The solicitor will be able to tell him who he should address the letter to but at a guess it will be to the magistrates hearing his case.

Hopefully he will remember in future - 'if you can't do the time, don't do the crime'.

If he is lucky he may get off with a caution - but still with a criminal record as he broke the law.

He MUST turn up a Court or a bench warrant could be served and he could end up in more trouble.

it really, really sucks that the government gets involved in such petty things in the first place.
i mean, did he violate anoyne else's rights?

they even set the age at which YOUR son is allowed to have a beer...

best of luck my friend.

You're going to write the letter for him? Oh, yeah, that's teaching him responsibility, now, isn't it.
Sorry, but I won't help with this.
