Pedialyte is fine just for diarrhea-- it's just used to rehydrate your child. When my child has diarrhea, my sister (a pediatric nurse) also recommends the BRAT diet-- Bananas, Rice, Apples and Toast. Try to avoid milk/dairy products (I know that might be impossible, but my daughter was fine switching to soy milk for a few days). If there's no change (even slight) for the better within 24 hours, call your pediatrician, even just for a quick consult with the RN on call. They will let you know if there's any cause for further intervention.

We were told not to use Pedialyte unless our son had both diarrhea and vomiting, but I don't know if it'll hurt anything on a short-term basis.
