I always crack my knuckles (called cavitation). I don't really consider it a bad habit. It loosens me up. It doesn't feel as good, at least to me, as cracking my neck and back, but it certainly feels good.
It is great after writing or typing after a long time.
There is always a discussion about whether it causes arthritis. In specific studies, it says it doesn't.
I say crack away.

I'v alway heard that cracking your knuckles or other joints in your body can lead to arthritis. Therefore I have alway been afraid to do it. I can imagine though that this become sort of a habit that can be hard to break because your not always consciously aware that your doing it. I have a friend that does it whenever she's nervous or in anticipation of something.

The old wives tale is that if you pop your knuckles it makes them larger and gives you arthritus... neither are true, although the proclivity towards having arthritus may cause the feelings that you have to pop your knuckles.
Popping your joints is nothing more than releasing the air pocket that is in the joint. The 'crack' that you hear is that escape, and it isn't harmful in and of itself.. but bending your fingers to get that release can ultimately help in the pain of joint diseases.

haha I always do it especially before I go to sleep and when I wake up. I like the sound and feel of it I suppose. I guess I just started and it is now a bad habit. My partner hates it, waking up to the sound of me doing it. Plus my knees, wrists, elbows, back, neck, well it all cracks so I'm worse than most.

I don't know and I often wonder why they do. I hate the sound, it's like scratching finger nails on a black board. From what I have heard it can cause the knuckles to get bigger. I can only guess that they like the sound - it's only caused by air between the joints.

Humans are animals of habit... You probably just got in the habit of doing it and now you cant stop. If you dont do it for 7 days the 'habit' is broken. GOOD LUCK!
