I was born an atheist. Then I read the entire Bible and was 100% certain that atheism is right for me.

I became an atheist as I became smarter, and realized, hey, there is a better and more reasonable explanation for the natural world.

And there doesn't HAVE to be a purpose to my existence, I don't ask "why am I here"?
Why is that cat here, why is that cold virus here?, you see?
It's here because there is life on earth, a teeeny tiiiiny planet. I'm sure there is and was and will be an abundance of life elsewhere in the universe.

there is no personal Jesus or a God watching your every move, hanging on your every thought, and scrutinizing all of your fleeting opinions and beliefs.
How plausable, honestly, do you think it is that a giant spirit is always watching, always listening, like Santa Claus, he's knows if you've been naughty or nice?

Probably in a similar fashion that you became a theist. When we are young we hear about religion/God/Jesus, the whol package. Some of us are forced to go to Church, some of us choose to go to church. As we mature we begin to understand the God phenomenon more thoroughly. Most people at some point or another examine their beliefs and analyze the validity of the teachings. We study religion(s) and we study science (at least by force of formal education). At some point a decision is made: accept Jesus as your savior and trust that their is a Lord or don't. Maybe choice isn't such a good word. It's something that you feel. Either you feel God/Jesus in your life or you don't. The only time our stories are different is the end result. You became a theist, I became an atheist.

I'm not an atheist but I did date this guy who became an atheist and basically what happened to him was that his mom became sick and he prayed and prayed that she would get better and she died. So from his teenage years until now he still does not believe there is a god because his prayers were not answered. then he started looking at things in the world and saying of there were a god this would not happen. like when kids are killed or get cancer, or just eveil stuff in the world if he saw it on the news he'd say.. if there were a god this would not happen.then he also became skeptical of family members because they wouldcontinueto go to church and give money to the church and the next thing you know they minister is buying 500K house and driving the newest mercedes while the members are still struggling financial but giving their last money to the church. so I don't think that there is any specific thing you have to do, he just turned his back against any religion or god

Start asking questions.
Ask why things in the bible are contradicted by what is done in the real world.
Ask if christians are really practicing what the bible says.
And go from there. Remember to keep an open mind - be prepared to change your mind if the evidence points that way.

You don't 'become' an atheist and you don't have to have a reason or explanation. The old : because God does not exist does not cut it any longer.

I went to school and received an education. Now that I have a thorough understanding of science I have no need for primitive bronze age superstitions.

I was pretty young. I just never really bought the garbage they were selling in Sunday School. It took me a couple of years to get over the fact that I thought my parents were delusional.

I know this doesn't answer your question. But, I was thinking how the atheist don't believe there is a God and the Devil believes there is one God and trembles. At least he believes and the atheist don't believe in nothing. ***SIGH***
