You will be performing your job as ADMIN during the day. But keep in mind the old saying=== You are a SOLDIER first and an Admin clerk second. You will be taking turns performing guard duty, you will digging foxholes and doing all of the things that a soldier does. Good luck to you.

You needless to say have not been interior the army an extremely long term, in case you could ask that question. before everything, All MOS's are needed in Iraq, so the prospect of being sent there is great. next, with the aid of actuality that there are no "front" strains, or maybe the "green zone" has been bombed those days, there isn't any "secure" place to be. the different element that i've got known with regard to the army, is that no depend what your MOS is, you have 2 jobs. One is despite your MOS is, and the different is a soldier. So, in the event that they are in prefer of infantrymen and have adequate Admin people, then you definately would be a soldier.

This greatly depends on what type of unit you go to but chances are you are going to be at Battalion level or higher and you are going to be in the S-1 shop (which is the personnel shop) regardless of unit. You are going to have to pull other duties like guard duty but your day to day life will be spent doing paperwork. Some Admin guys just like any other support job can get pulled for a dangerous assignment but it is very rare and normally any admin guy on a dangerous mission is there voluntarily.

Our S-1 guys had a wooden building with electricity and A/C and internet and just did paperwork and that was all the way back in 2004 a year after the invasion. In the grand scheme of things about the worst thing you might have to do is pull an occasional guard duty and depending on where in Iraq you are, that can range from sheer boredom to sheer terror. All in all, you have the least dangerous job in the Army and you are not given the proper training to go on dangerous missions so if making it out alive is on your agenda you are in a good space. If you want combat I would switch to something else.

It sounds like you will have a job behind a desk. I just joined recently and I am going to be a Public Affairs Specialist and I assume that that will put me behind a desk. It is surprising that there are so many jobs that will not put you in harms way while civilians think if you join the army you are going to be shot at.

This is what I've seen first hand. I'm a 31B(Military Police), and went to Baghdad. I was on a PSD(Protective Services Detail) team, and we had a 42A(Admin) on our team. We went on missions almost everyday, got shot at, and hit by IEDs and mortars. When it comes to Iraq, there is no for sure answer. I've also seen 42As sit in palaces at desks and do paperwork. Your guess is as good as mine.

More than likely you'll find yourself in the "S-shop", filing paperwork, etc... Probably won't see much so long as fighting is concerned. You will be called a "Pogue" by the infantry, which basically translates to deskguy. Good luck, having fun pushing the pencil.

You will be doing your primary MOS. However, if your unit comes under attack, you will fight as a rifleman. Remember, you will be a soldier first. Also, your chain of command might place you a certain details not related to your MOS.

most often the army spends time and money on your mos,it is unlikely that they will change it.now in a war if bad goes to worse you may have a duel job.
