This winter is very dry and indoor heating, although needed can really dry out and cause your skin to become flakey. I use a moisturizing shower and bath oil by Aveeno, in combination with Neutrogena body oil a few times per week.
Quench body lotion by Olay works very well, there is an extra dry skin formula.
For my hands I use Sally Hansen 18 Hour Protective Hand Creme. It is very healing and leaves your skin soft and smooth without being greasy.
I also use a product called Bag Balm which was actually created in 1899 for farmers to use on milking cows. I use this with the cotton spa gloves and socks at night and this makes a big difference on the skin health on my hands and feet. I also use this as a lip balm in frigid weather. You can put lipstick or lip gloss on over it.
It is important to keep your skin moisturized, your skin does have a lot to do with protecting your entire body and is actually considered to be the body's' largest organ.
Make sure that you are not taking long steaming hot showers or baths, even though it is very tempting to do so if you have been out in the cold, as this will dry your skin even more.
Johnsons baby oil gel is a good product, but it is not strong enough for adult skin. Babies have the softest and smoothest skin to begin with so softening products only have to sit on the top of the skin. Adults need the products to penetrate through the dryness and repair the damage.
I have come up with the combination of above mentioned products from years of trying products to see what works for me. If you lower the shower and bath temp a bit, and use the Aveeno and the Sally Hansen product to start, you will see a huge difference in only a few days time.
You can also improve your skin from the inside, by taking Fish oil tablets, eating fish and cooking with good quality oils, such as olive oil. Best of luck to you and have a good day.

Drink more more more water and slap on moisturiser. I don not know the function of the baby oil gel that you were referring to, but maybe i would recommend using Vaseline brand products or some petroleum jelly products, because they really works! The petroleum jelly products is a very effective barrier against moisture. So moisture will not be lost from your skin into the dry dry air.
Another things is that maybe the baby oil is really for baby use, and not for moisturising your skin.
Go see a doctor for a last resort, but I think it will not be necessary if you are using the right products.

I have very dry skin too and the products that work best for me are eucerin intensive repair plus or the new nivea essentially enriched lotions. These are more like creams, which work better than lotions (there is a difference in water or alcohol content....can't remember which right now..). Also a plain vaseline can help to seal in moisture and block wind and sun damage in very dry spots and a little hydrocortisone cream can help with itching (DO NOT use the hydrocortisone near your eyes, though.) Hope this helps.

I've been using the Johnson's Baby Oil Gel too. Put it on as soon as you get out of the shower, when your skin is still wet. It's been working for me. Another good product is Eucerin. It's a bit more expensive than some, but it works great.

Use a moisturizer like Vasaline, Olay, Aveeno, St. Ives, Jergens or Neutrogena. These are all sold at your local pharmacy. Also do not use drying acne products. I get dry hands in the winter and i use Neutrogena Norwegian Formula it works great!

You might do better with a product that has shea butter in it, rather than baby oil.
