il a acheté une voiture--- here il is a subject pronoun replacing le prof
le prof l'a acheté.... here la (but became l' cause we can not put 2 vowels in front of each other) is a direct object pronoun replacing voiture
direct object answers the question what usually, like in this sentence what did the prof buy, he bought a car=voiture (the pronoun would be le for masculine and la for feminine replacing a direct object)
now indirect object answers to whom for example if we add to this sentence "le prof a acheté une voiture pour sa fille" here he bought the car to whom? to his daughter/fille. to replace an indirect object u use "lui" the sentence becomes Le prof lui a acheté une voiture

Il a acheté une voiture que l’on trouve magnifique.

Is that what they want? As le prof is masculine, I've replaced it with the pronoun "il".

Perhaps this link will give you the information you want. It is a very tricky area of French, but once you've mastered it you'll feel very proud of your achievement! http://www.hfac.uh.edu/mcl/ta/vandermaliere/Copiepronomsexplication.htm
