My cat stairs into space at the wall or in the hallway. But I don't bother them. They are probably thinking about something.
Maybe there was a shadow on the wall and the light moved which made it moved.
Or there was a bug on it and one of the cats got it and ate it. Which could explain why there was no bug when you looked. And they wanted more so they kept coming back to see if there was anymore.
Either way I wouldn't worry about it. Cats sometimes space out and do crazy things but nothing so bad you should worry about it.
I do believe that cats see things but not in a paranormal way. They see better in the dark because they're nocturnal and they have better eyes.
Maybe it was a little dust flake so small you couldn't see it.

My cat often 'looks' at things that are not there. When i carry her up the stairs in my arms, she always looks up the wall at the same spot like there is something there. But there is not, that i know of anyway! She often sits and her head will follow as if something is walking in the doorway and through the room. I have also seen her in my bedroom and she seen something in the mirror once that really freaked her out. Her tail went all big and she puffed out like she was threatened. it really felt like there was a presence in the room with us. I just walked out and left that room for a while. I think it may have something to do with a ghostly presence that the cat can sence and we cant. My cat has also stretched her paws up the wall, but i think that was after she had a sleep and was just having a stretch to wake up. If your worried about a presence in your house, just ask it to leave.

Cats are strange, are you thinking it was a spooky thing? Well my cat stares at a brick wall, for no apparent reason, it is as though the wall has suddenly appeared, even though it has always been there. Maybe your cat was trying to freak you out and the other one got in on the act or they ate something strange and caused them to hallucinate and imagine something on the wall or it was a paranormal situation.

Spooky, maybe you didnt see a insect, cats have really good ears so probably could hear something in the wall. Kittens all follow eachother around it probably again was just a shadow.

It is a spooky habit of all cats! Some people think they are seeing ghosts or angels but I don't believe in that. I think they see light reflections or shadows that our very poor eyesight can't. Sometimes they will see a very tiny insect and watch it intently too.
You will get used to it and there is no need to freak out, it can be amusing to watch!

They are called woomallies---my Aunt told me about them (she read it in a book somewhere). Woomallies are the things that cats and dogs see, that we as humans cant see. If you notice cats and dogs both spent a lot of time staring at walls and ceilings that there is nothing on--so they are watching the woomallies.

One of my cats does exactly the same thing.
He stares at a blank wall, and stretches up with his front paws, as though trying to reach something, or to climb the wall.
I have no idea why.

I asked the same question last week. My 1 year old cat was doing the same thing. No explanation except maybe a shadow from where they were sitting.
