I don't believe rape survivors ever simply "get over" the trauma they were forced to endure. Healing is more of a life-long procees with many ups & downs.

If you feel your counselor isn't helping you, ask him or her to try something new with you or to refer you to another doctor. Like one girl mentioned before me, have you ever heard of EMDR? It's supposed to be a very effective therapy for patients suffering PTSD. Ideally, you will still have those memories, of course (no one can magically erase your memory), rather, when you do have those memories, you will no longer experience those pesky physical things you FEEL when you have those memories (like panic, sickness, etc).

Do a little research on EMDR and ask your doctor if he or she is certified to perform it.

Feel better!

You need to keep speaking with the doctor. This is a memorie that will never reallly go away. This person violated you and you will have to forever carry this inside of you...However Therapy can help ease the pain and make you understand that the person that did this to you is the bad guy ( not you)The doctor may not be helping now but she will dont worry ..It takes time to heal.

PS - I was in the EXACT position you were in.
