Leading people to a loving God, and not wanting others to die without Christ is what motivates a right minded Christian . Now there may be Christians ,who unfortunately dont get that point . However, What is to be gained by an Atheist leading somebody away from a God , that they dont even believe in ? Even the devil believes in God.

This is a good question. Atheists expect Christians to leave them alone and not evangelise them, yet they are not content to leave Christians alone, instead constantly mocking and criticising them. One would think that if they consider Christianity to be a harmless, meaningless thing which nevertheless makes people happy, they would allow Christians to be happy in their way, as it does not interfere with their own view of life. But for some reason, they don't. This is a question which has puzzled people for a long time. Marlowe's Dr Faustus asked the Devil why he went to so much trouble to turn people away from Christ and the answer was that the sole consolation of hell was to put others there. Perhaps the Devil is preying upon people's natural need of fellowship, the kind of fellowship which believers enjoy in Christ, to make his own followers seek to add others to their ranks. Maybe being an atheist is a lonely state. I don't know: I've never been one.

Atheists experience the same motivations as any other group. Like christians, most atheists assume that knowing the truth is better for you than believing a lie. If they choose to argue their view, they're simply trying to help.

But then there's the vocal minority from both sides who seem to act more out of frustration than good-will.

It's been my personal experience that the juvenile sniping and name-calling is fairly evenly matched on-line . . . but off-line is another story. The casual assumption that not believing in god means you don't believe in anything is unsettlling coming from people you thought of as friends.

Ever laugh or casually agree with the "no atheists in fox-holes" line? Because that's not a joke so much as a casual insult. That dismissive attitude is pervasive in our culture. And it's especially hard on young people who already feel a sense of alienation. The predictable, though not desirable, result is hostility. Although I don't condone the behavior, I at least understand some of the motivation for the more obnoxious anti-theists.

What I don't get is the more obnoxious persecution routines from some christians. For example, some of the answers to this question. Just because you have to listen to a couple rude people, it doesn't suddenly make you not the largest religious group in the country. It doesn't mean that all of us atheists center our lives around figuring out how to take away your happiness or further our "agenda". And it certainly doesn't mean that you have any justification for the stereotypical moral superiority riff that usually follows any question or comment about atheism. In fact, I'm pretty sure some dude said something about not judging or turning the other cheek or something like that.

Just take a deep breath, and let it go. You'll be happier for it.

Atheists actually care about their fellow human beings, and do not like to see them floating around in their delusion bubbles, stressing themselves out over what happens after death and whether or not this thing or that thing is a "sin". We especially dislike it when we see children experiencing it, having been given no choice in the matter. Most of us have been there, and we know how it works.

Other than that, it is not unreasonable, or Satanic, to say, "If you claim this to be true, prove it." Your statement, "even the devil believes in God" is ridiculous, since no part of it is supported by evidence of any kind. Blind faith is not a virtue for an atheist, it is cause for alarm because it has implications for everyone, not just the believer.

Most atheists couldn't care less whether anybody else believes in a God or not. If Christians weren't disrespecting our choice for ourselves by preaching and proselytizing, or otherwise pushing their beliefs on others, atheists likely wouldn't talk about the subject of God much at all.

If you READ CAREFULLY, you'll see that atheists usually explain why THEY have no interest in God/Jesus, NOT that YOU shouldn't. Not believing in a god is not a big deal to an atheist.

Of course, we aren't going to just stand by and let Christians try to tell OUR children that a God who drowned, sickened, and slaughtered millions, and commanded his followers to hurt and kill people is worthy of praise or worship. That stuff is WAY beneath our moral standards. You are free to let your own children slobber all over him if you wish.

The devil believes in God, and tries to imitate God as closely as he can to fool people. Christians might believe they are doing a good deed by leading people to Christ. I believe christians are satan worshippers, and I think I'm doing a good deed for pointing that out. It just depends on perspective.

the moment christians try to corrupt and attack science by denying evolution, they should be corrected. that is all. Creationists and ID zealots are actively misleading ignorant people and they must be stopped. It's not like I am going door to door to de-convert people.

ps. the devil, in the atheist view, is as much a human construct as your god is. So saying 'even the devil believes in god' doesn't do much for us.

Well, let me see.
They accuse us of being angry and judgmental, however it seems I have met more angry Atheists than I have Christians.

Agreed, not all Christians exhibit their relationship with Christ, and they often use words they should not.

But the most anger seems to come from those buffoons who accuse us of being stupid.

You are right, even the devil believes in God and Jesus.
Atheists don't believe in God, but they believe in every ideology that disclaims God.
