I sold a truck to a guy 19 months ago. He paid in full. Said he'd be back to get it. It is still sitting here. I don't know his name or address. Sick of looking at it and need money. How long do I have to wait before I can sell it again. I live in Vermont. Never gave him a bill of sale. He paid with a Bank cashiers check, with no memo as to the nature of the transaction. a charge for storage was never discussed, as I thought he would be back soon.

No title was transfered. It is a 1970 Antique. The guy has nothing in writing to prove ownership.

Place an ad in the nwespaper stating that if the truck is not removed in 30 days , same will be sold

Did you give him the signed title? If so, it's his truck, but you can probably start proceedings to declare it abandoned at this point. Your first step would be to find out if he ever transferred it into his name. If he didn't, and it's still in your name, just apply for a lost title (assuming you gave it to him) and sell it. If it was transferred into his name, send him a certified letter to either come and get it or you will start charging storage fees, and then follow whatever the rules are for abandoned vehicles in your state.

Since registration information is restricted, I'd have the police come and run the VIN or plate to see if it still is in your name.

I'll bet he's either in prison, or something like that. If you didn't give him a bill of sale, there is nothing in the Memo field, and he never came back for the truck after 3 months that you have every legal and/or moral right to cash that check.

It's not your fault. almost 2 years is ridiculous... sell the thing!

You have waited a reasonable amount of time. Sell it without fear.
