There are quite a few air purifying systems on the market now. They are usually aimed at asthma & hayfever sufferers as they filter pollen, dust, smoke & pet dander. They cost anything from about £25 up & you'll probably need one for each of the rooms your cats go into.

Make sure that the cats don't have access to your brother's bedroom.

Try to brush your cats everyday to limit the amount of fur they shed around the house.

If your brother has a sever allergy it may be best to consider rehoming. Your local rehoming centre may even have a waiting list or be able to find a foster home in the meantime.

Best of luck.x

I've had cats all my life and allergies all my life.
Never had a problem with cat allergies until 3 years ago...at that time we had four cats.
Nothing on Gods earth was going to make me get rid of my animals, so I changed allergy medication...on a side note we now have four cats...just adopted a male stray in November.

If you and your Brother still live at home and are underage then it's going to be up to your parents as to what happens.
If you live on your own then it's your choice, you could tell your Brother that he's welcome to come and visit, but that your not going to give up your cats.

Trying combing the cats daily to remove as much loose hair and dander as possible.

I really wish I had a cut and dried answer for you, but I don't really think there is one.

Good luck

This is tough. How badly is he allergic? You may be able to solve it by brushing the cats and vacuum regularly. There are also rather expensive air filters that help with the hair and dander.

Is there an area the cats could be confined where your brother doesn't go? Maybe your bedroom or a basement den or something.?

I don't supose your parents are willing to put him on alergy medcations or shots?

Guess it depends on how bad he suffers. Many people with allergies can take daily antihistimines to keep it under control. Adding a fatty acid type of oil to their food might help keep dander down. This is available at vets and larger petstores. I've heard something about adding a capfull of Downy fabric softener to a quart of water and using it as a rinse on the cats. You might do an online search about this before trying it... to see if others have had this help.

Try getting your brother some good allergy meds. They might also have some kind of shampoo you can put on your kitties to make the allregic reaction less.

A friend of mine had the same problem and had to choose between the cat and the boyfriend. In the end she took the cat to the vet and he removed a gland (I think the anal gland) and now she's happy because she has both boyfriend and kitty and boyfriend is not experiencing any symptoms...though I heard kitty is allergic to the boyfriend. Do you think removing his anal gland will help?
