I'm in the Army right now. I'm in the field away from everything for a month. The internet is the only way I have to contact the outside world. Normally I use Myspace to keep in touch with people, but on the Army's official unclassified network out here in the field, Myspace is blocked. Why? It's the same as email and we're allowed to do that, except in Myspace I can actually search for people.

Just as with any other government or commercial network - websites that are not considered to be 'work related' are blocked.

I don't know the Army's answer overall, but the reason MySpace has been blocked downrange is for various security reasons. A simple blog of "Won't be on for a few days" can be translated a million different ways by others. Also, a few incidents have occurred where loved ones of deceased soldiers found out through messages posted on MySpace. Where the thought was to use the page as a tribute, it also provided a terrible blow to those who hadn't yet been informed.

They are controlling all news leaving Iraq! Probably blocking it because of the very reason you stated..."on my space you talk to people". That is not something this administration wants and they are willing to do anything to keep as much from us at home and from you there. As Kieth said so eloquitly "We have given this President a blank check drawn against our own freedom" and that was only the beginning. After the Patriot Act was passed (at 3:00am, no one got to read it first and it sounded like voting against it would be unpatriotic) we had all our rights slaughtered in one fatal sweep. Freedom of speech has been the most effective and is the most obvious to anyone who asked this administration anything. Just like here at home we have these new "no reporting zones" that are usually far away from everything. Journalists there in Iraq are extremely limited as to the pix and stories they can release and it's all approved first. Here at home, during Katrina, our reporters were told they could not take any pix. We need pix of our world disasters, if nothing else, for our own history books.
They will stop at nothing to keep you from telling us what is really going on there. I do hope you will respond by telling us how conditions look to you there. Is it true that the real expedition is the new permanant military bases? Please let the men you are there with know that I love them and thank them all for thier sacrafices. I pray that all of you stay safe and return home quickly. I miss you all so much. It's lonely here without you. Since they have not banned thisspace from you, I'll try to tell you as much as I can here as often as possible, ok. xxoo!

My husband went by way of OSUT at FLW early final year as a 21B, and curiously a number of those different answerers have not been to BCT in awhile. My husband became allowed his telephone in the time of BCT, yet basically on the Drill Sgts discretion. He have been given to apply his telephone 6 out of the ten Sundays, in specific circumstances for 3 minutes, the longest communication became approximately half-hour. it surely relies upon on your Drill Sgt and how sturdy your company does that week. After the calls your telephone is bagged and became lower back in until the subsequent time you're allowed to call. in case you % to apply the internet on your telephone rather of call, that's great too. yet like I pronounced, it should not be many times. you will maximum probable have your telephone each weekend in the time of AIT, my husband might get his Friday night, then could return it Sunday night.

If you are in the US Army and you are in the field, that is a training exercise and the Army
can forbid any internet usage during that time
period.
