Why do they have little round indentations on one side? What purpose do they serve?

to give you the choice of spreading your butter on thinly on the side without indentations and thick on the other side

I believe it's probably the same logic as the old 'Slimsia' bread - The slimmers bread that contained far less calories ... simply because it consisted of far more holes!

Or maybe, like a golf-ball, the dimples that you see on a Ryvita make em more aerodynamic!

just eaten a pack of ryvita mini's with garlicherbs quit nice actually i like full ryvita with creamcheese and chives

Perhaps to allow enough topping on? Because the do not really absorb like a bread, it holds together better??
