used in these jugs could pose a health threat over the long term? The water from own my tap requires filtering and bottled water contains far too many minerals - hence the water jug filter.

Used one for about three years when we lived in an area with bad tasting water and it really helped. You need to replace the filters regularly but it was a good alternative to the expense of buying bottled water and you didn't have all those plastic bottles to dispose of.

Carbon is used extensively in water treatment as a purifier and filter. There are no known long term health threats known.
