Its roughly around 550 kilometers. If you like to drive, then its about 5 hours, depending on traffic and weather. You could opt and take the train. Nice way to relax and see the countryside. The bus really sucks, but its cheaper. If you like to fly, thats the faster way and it can be cheaper than taking the train.

it is a 5 1/2 hour drive to montreal from toronto. i prefer to take the express train as it leaves from union station downtown and arrives in downtown montreal. the express train is 4 hours which works out faster than flying considering time to get to and from airport and waiting time. the bus takes a lot longer but is much cheaper. if you buy the train ticket 7 days in advance, it is cheaper.

I have traveled to Toronto from Montreal many times, almost always by train. It's not too expensive plus it's very comfortable. VIA is the way to go.

I have driven and also have taken the train. The train is a nice ride. You get time to relax and look around.
