because of tax and spend philosophy. thats where government legislates through finance....like the minimum wage and the forced sick leave. the problem is its all nice but liberals never seem to care who pays for it, and usually its the taxpayer. taxes dont liven an economy, they stifle it. tax and spend hasnt worked since the sixties and some people never learn. this is the major reason boston is in the mess you describe. but the sales presentation of a free lunch is sometimes too good for most of the special interest groups the dems approach to pass up and thats why its so popular but counterproductive.

Most states went in the red because of the cut backs in federal funding education!! Remember the President increased the standards but cut back the funding! Not the only reason most states went in the red but a good part of the reason. Boston Mass had incompetent people who estimated the cost of the big dig but didn't take into account the equipment needed to get reception (cell phone. etc) underground.
Just goes to show that it doesn't matter what party a persons belongs to when it comes to hiring incompetent help.

First, every Democrat controlled state does not go in the red. It's unfortunate what may be going on in Massachusetts, but you must remember Massachusetts has had REPUBLICAN Governors for many years. I think blame may lie with more than Democrats, sir. It's also important to point out that the United States had record surpluses under a Democrat President and administration and now we have squandered those surpluses and have record DEFICITS under Republicans. Good or bad, financial health/condition and fiscal responsibility are determined by more than one party and thus cannot be blamed solely on one party. That is only fair and right. Republicans, Democrats, and everyone in between all play a role. In addition, foreign markets play a role in what happens in U.S. markets as well. Budget issues, in general, have a very wide scope including many factors on every level of government. Ultimately, less finger-pointing over problems would allow the marketplace of ideas to be enriched, leading to better ideas and more comprehensive solutions to the complex problems that face local, state, and federal governments.

Coz you are reading stuff from Republican sources.
PS: Massachusetts has a very healthy economy & is doing better on health, education, pollution & crime combined than most other states (& the US really could learn & improve a lot by copying Europe more).
Only when the US becomes a three-party state with a AvsB, BvsC & AvsC ballot (& a 4th one for deciding which party gets to replace the 3rd one on the main ballot next time) will you ever get closer to the truth & will you ever hear more about actual intentions rather than accusations - alternatively, introduce a neutral factchecking agency & fines for lies - that'll change your perceptions, eventually / perhaps.
