If I was hearing God I wouldn't have myself locked up but someone else would.

You don't really know about God do you?
The boy was not killed,it was simply a test of faith that God did to that guy to see how far the man would go to obey the Lord.
You should really read the Bible with an open heart as well as an opened mind and you will know that the boy was not harmed and you would understand what it was all about.

God was testing noah and his sons faith and obediance. In the end God showed his love and provided a ram.
He tested noah by telling him to sacrafice his son and noah obeyed and was rewarded.
And Noah's son could have easily run off. The bible said he was the one carrying the wood. He was strong probably around 20 he could have run off yellin "Catch me if you can old man" but he didn't .
The storie was helpfull because years later it has helped us by telling us "you know what , what God is telling me may not make sense be he will come through."

Well there are a large group of people that are so blindly devoted that they would perform such an act with the mental assumption that God would save the child, or that God was protecting the child from something much worse.
I do not think I could do that. Although I believe in God, I am not so sure that any organized religion has gotten it right, and there have been too many human hands in misc translations of the Bible for me to be super sure it too is completely accurate.
So no I wouldn't and if I had to answer for it later I would, but I have fought too hard to protect my kids from their own father, so I can't hurt them.

The guy was so obedient to God, he was willing to sacrifice his own son. Obedience to God was seen as very desirable in the culture of the people in the Bible. Plus, God doesn't actually make him do it, so God looks good, too.

Honestly, I don't know how that could ever be considered "awesome." I consider it the height of child abuse. If I heard a voice in my head tell me to do that, I would send my child to my mother's house and check myself into the nearest psychiatric ward.
Then again, I think we are taking the story out of the context in which is was written. Back in those days, human sacrifice was not only acceptable, it was also done on a regular basis. To sacrifice one's only son to the gods (or to even to one god) was the height of piety. Abraham (the man in question) grew up in a culture where such human sacrifice was the norm, so when he heard God tell him to sacrifice his son, he saw nothing out of the ordinary.
The "awesome" part of the story comes in when God refused the sacrifice and told Abraham to sacrifice a ram instead. It was awesome because it ended the tradition of human sacrifice in the Hebrew culture.

Weirdo! It was not “that Guy” He was Ibrahim (Peace be upon him). It was to test his faith in Allah (God) to see how far he can go to obey his lord.
That is why Holly Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him) said I am the son of two who were given to sacrifice… first: Ibrahim’s son and second the Prophets father Abdullah. His grandfather had said that if God gave me another son I will sacrifice him but when he looked at his son his paternal love took over and he was unable to keep his promise. But to please God and ask for forgiveness in return he sacrificed 100 camels.
If you have heard of Hajj (The annual Muslim pilgrimage) it has three monuments of Satan. The Hajjis (Pilgrams of Hajj) hit these three monuments with pebbles. Those three monuments are made in remembrance of this act of Ibrahim. During their journey from home to the place of sacrifice Satan came and tried to change his and his son’s mind. Ibrahim stoned the Satan at three points during that journey and the three monuments are located on and represent those three points.
Muslims still do that annually to show their acceptance and respect for Ibrahim before they sacrifice rams or sheep.
And Dear The Last Ent Wife:
No Jesus was not sacrificed for our sins… God is not curel and unjust to punish one person for another’s sins… It’s satan that keeps telling us and giving us false hope… “What we sow shall we reap” That does not mean that Jesus was not true. He was a holly Prophet and one of God’s beloved human beings. Born from the pious Marry without a father just like God created Adam and Eve without parents. As he “Jesus” said in his cradle: I am a servant of Allah (God) (Abdullah). He has given me the book (The testament) and made me a prophet”. A translation of a verse from the Holly Quran.

God done had a sacrifice provided for that day. He wanted to see if that guy you say would obey what God asked.

God asked Jacob to kill Isaac as a test to see if he was really loyal to God. It was a test which he past! I probably would not have!

That guy was Abraham, from whom the Abrahamic religions are derived. The Abrahamic faiths are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Abraham passed off his wife as his sister, twice, so she could marry other (wealthy, powerful) men. The first time they pulled this stunt, they brought a plague upon the house of Pharoah and got kicked out of Egypt.
That's nothing compared to what he did to his kid. He put him on the pyre, and was fully prepared to burn his son to death before God so nicely intervened with a sort of "Hey, I was just kidding". If he had killed the kid, his defence would have been that he was "just following orders." Think Nuremburg.
Nice guy, huh? Bet the kid really appreciated that. Nice god, too. It's so admirable to have so much blind faith in god that you would kill your own child, and it's a really loving god that would put a human being through such a "test".
It's a sickening story, and it's even more sickening how many religious apologists can find anything positive in it.
