How about joining the millions who are against the war and want the troops to come home soon?
Killing an Iraqi is not going to make you feel any better.
Freeing a soldier from potential death will.
If you enlist you are giving more power to the man who sent your friend to Iraq.

I am sorry that you lost your friend in Iraq, you have my deepest sympathy.
Your concern about enlisting, search your soul, is this what you really want? Would your friend have wanted you to enlist, and perhaps eventually be sent to Iraq? Do you feel that you can best serve your country in the military? How can you best honor your friend, by enlisting, or by assisting in a cause here to help support the troops who are already there.
Carefully consider all your options, I wish you the very best in what ever you decide to do. Also remember, this is not a split decision that you have to make, take your time.

i am sorry for your loss, i am in the miliatry so i feel as if i lost your friend as well ( we aren't called brothers in arms for nothing) In the military, no matter which branch you are in, we are all family. But, to enlist for revenge is no reason to do so. But also, it is your choice and if you are going to enlist to fight for your friends honor, they already achieved his/her honor for lying down his/her life they already achieved that. It is your choice on what you should do. This war is a personal matter for all of us and i trust that you will make this decision on your own, not with the help of others telling you what you should do, it is your life don't let others make it out for you. Good Luck and Be safe.

It's a matter of commitment and love for our country. I, for one, is an American National. I couldn't be drafted as it was during the Viet Nam war, but I could join, I did the latter. I joined the U. S. Marine Corps in 1967 and served honorably for 22 years. I was in Viet Nam from December 1967 to August 1969 as a Machine-gunner and was awarded the Silver Star Medal in 1968 for heroic actions against the enemy when they tried to overrun our position. I am no hero but I did what I had to do to survive.
One thing that stands out in my career is that the military teaches you everything you want to know about life. The benefits are also great. I retired in 1989 and still enjoying the benefits. I wish to thank each and everybody who ever wore the uniform for their dedication in preserving our freedom.
So in answering your question, ask yourself, "Am I committed?" Then execute it.
God bless and good luck.

You are right it is a personal matter, but to join up in something that you do not believe in may be a wrong move for you. You should set down and think about the plus and minus of avenging your friends death in this manner. Perhaps there is a better way to do it but you will have to make that decision on your own. Personally I do not think that putting yourself in harms way for the reason you stated is the right thing to do. Good luck with your decision.

If you are thinking about enlisting for revenge, then I would suggest you do not do it. If you are doing it to serve your country, and you believe it is the right thing to do, then do it it and may God protect you. Revenge is a strong drive that needs to be controlled by wisdom. I am sorry for your loss of your friend, signing up will not bring him back. All those killed in war or have served in war to protect our country are hero's to our country.

Thats no reason to enlist....you have to have a better reason than its personal in order to do any good for your country. Enlist for the right reasons! Enlist because you are a patriot and you would stand up for every other American in this great country...do it for honor, courage and committment....Do it because you need discipline in your life, you need help to get you through college, you need good mentors to show you the way in life...dont do it for revenge or a personal vendetta.

If you feel that your enlisting would bring you comfort than by all means do so. Don't do it out of guilt of losing a friend. The military is a commitment. I can guarantee there ain't nothing like it around home.
