Gelatin ( what causes it to jell) which used to be used in Jello was made from animal by products. Now days it is made from some sort of synthetic that is digestable.

Did you know that jello is actually made from cow toenail.. The callogen in the toenail is melted down, dehydrated and eventually turned into powder with sugar etc.. The callogen is what holds our skin, bones, and muscles together, the elastin is what makes our skin and muscles bend... So you're really eating ground up melted callogen from cow's toe nail, but no worries!

the same reason water turns to ice when in the cold...the temperature changes the form of the compound...
Oh...I heard gelatin is made from horses hooves and you know what they have been stepping in...and I heard that that they never let anyone tour the Jello factory..

Gelatin originally derived from Pigs. I believe it to be their hoofs. Like horse and glue.
There is vegetable gelatin. It is Kosher.
