I recently bought a kitchen appliance from ebay, it came from America, what I didn't realise was that it had an American 2 pin plug on it, (which isn't the same as the 2 pin plugs from say eg-spain) and the voltage is different to Britain, what do I need to buy in order to be able to use it???? Does anyone know??

you can buy simple plug adaptors but this won't solve the problem of voltage - if you're appliance does not have a voltage selector switch, then you'll have to buy a voltage transformer adaptor

Cut the plug off and simply fit the normal three pin plug type with a three amp fuse,
how ever if you cant switch from 110 volts to 240 volts then you might have to buy a transformer.
Not such a good deal once you have brought all the bits to make your "kitchen appliance" work after all that was the main reason for buying it from ebay in the first place.

If the appliance has an electric motor and it doesn't have a voltage selector switch, you might not be able to adapt it at all. There are three differences between American and British electrical systems:
- plug shape (can buy an adapter)
- voltage (can buy a transformer)
- frequency (can maybe buy an inverter)
If possible, check with the manufacturer before trying anything.

You don't state what kind of appliance??? Look at the rating plate on it to find out the wattage, you will have to get 240/110 volt step down transformer of suitable power rating. The frequency may not be important, depending on what the appliance is! Dont just change the plug, you will damage it beyond repair!!!

DMsView's information is authentic on the enter. as long by way of fact the variety is sufficient you're able to be alright to apply it with the adapter. Now in case you have different gadgets that are no longer categorised, evaluate getting a transformer. I did want that to look after my battery recharger for my digital camera. My HP pc and my VoIP telephone "gizmo" ran only large with basically the adapter.

You will need a transformer with a suitable adaptor from US 2 pin to UK 3 pin. These are available in the UK from specialist electrical stores. I don't think you will find one in Curry's or similar but look around, they are available.
