Hi, I was born in that region of the states.
If you are really low on the cash for it, and don't want a trip too far, go to wheeling island and play some slots, low limit blackjack, or the chuck a luk wheel at 1$ a bet. Take about 300.00 you can afford to lose. If you lose 200.00, stop, and go out to a nice dinner.
For a higher option, not sure if the passport laws have changed yet, but the canadian side of the niagara falls is a nice drive. Don't stop in buffalo, just keep on going. But call oh, border patrol before your trip and ask about current passports. If you need one, it will take some weeks. Be careful about customs, don't get frisky. The US border patrol has recently been cracking down, hard core since the war.
In spring, and early summer, the wine country near Erie is simply wonderful. Take a few days, and drive along the lake erie roads on the north shore, from Erie to buffalo. A mellow trip, quiet, and pleasant.
If you have money, there might be winter cottages in the poconos, far west PA about 5 hours drive. Never been, but heard it's good.
It's still kind of cold to go to the delaware beaches, but the ocean is nice. The drive is kind of long, though.
If you have 600 or more dollars do the drive to Florida. Just watch the neighborhoods you go to Homestead is pretty cool, it's an air force town, has some quiet beaches. Jacksonville is a navy town, likely not what you are looking for.
More money than that, like 1000.00 or more, well you're laready likely the type to fly, so do the bahamas, or something through a travel agent. Book in advance. Set up passports in advance. Stay abreast of customs issues. Don't carry anyone else's bags, don't let anyone put anything in your bags.
Whale-watching Alaskan cruises in the off season, are really nice, I hear. Might not be for a while. Check with a travel agent.
Don't bother with Mexico, especially near texas, the political climate is in turmoil, and near laredo and el paso the drug gangs and traffickers are shooting journalists, and taking over. The whole immigration issue in the US has most of mexico pretty fired up. But like I said, Canada is pretty cool. Been there recently, most of Ontario is pretty nice. If you cross the border to Canada, do not under any circumstances lose your ID. The border is like I said, getting to be a lot tighter, to keep out the Jihadists.
I personally wouldn't try to go to Europe, or Asia, because of well, terrorism vs American nationals.
If you are an outdoors type, the Grand Canyon is Very nice. Bring water, and stay on marked trails, and have a plan. You can run into trouble / Survival situations really fast, if you are not careful. It can get cold, in the depths bring sweaters. And again, water.
Good luck.

It depends on your budget, personal preferences, etc. I have always thought a honeymoon in Acadia National Park (Maine) in the fall would be awesome and that would be close and could be decently inexpensive. However, if you prefer warmer, more expensive then I would say a cruise through the Carribean. The cruiseline handles all the nittygritty so it's minus the hassle, plus the warmth (pretty much year round and rates are actually cheaper near the holiday season in Dec.). However since sex with a sunburn sounds awful so bring sunblock and you might want to actually get a nice room since on a honeymoon you might use it more than most people would...:)
