the adjustments interior the wars are tremendous, the political competition to them interior the U. S. is the same. In Vietnam you had 2 set sides with 2 separate governments battling for administration. In Iraq you've the authorities we help to verify battling with dozens of diverse communities. even as in Vietnam after we lost the North, their communist authorities took over. In Iraq if we fail to confirm that their authorities stands the country ought to destroy out into an all out civil conflict. even as I agree that there is already a civil conflict occurring there, when we depart the point of violence is anticipated to bounce with the opportunity of on the threshold of one million people being killed. Iraq's pals have already reported they're going to takes sides if we depart. The Turks have reported they're going to invade northern Iraq to disarm the Kurds and forestall them from having there own state. The Saudis have reported publicly that the choose fund and arm the Sunnis and the Iranians are already doing that with the Shiites. The conflict has the flair of drawing all sides right into a much better close by conflict. Which, captured Alkaid record have reported no longer only are they hoping for this they extremely have plans to commence it once the U. S. leaves through dressing in uniforms of Iran, Saudis, Syrian, etc and attack the different sides that bypass into Iraq. Vietnam became plenty a lot less stressful and no the position close to as large of mess that Iraq is.

Here's one key difference: We don't have the draft now. The people that are going over and fighting for us in this senseless nonsense for that asshole Bush are volunteer servicemen and women.
The Draft was in place during Vietnam -- thousands and thousands of 18 year old children (and they are children) with no clue what they were heading for -- were being sent to slaughter, and the ones who didn't die came back to be spat upon and debased by the good citizens of our country. Not enough they were exposed to more brutality than they could stand for the rest of their lives without support from our government and the great Veteran's administration! The streets of the country were also lined with lovely people ready to call them names and throw things at them, too.
I don't know what you mean when you say "the people lost the war" -- but I have said from day one that we don't belong there, and this could turn out to be another Viet Nam. With advances in technology and warfare, and with a difference in location, we do have a fewer advantages than we did back then.
But war is war, and death for our troops is still wrong, and still a disgrace that George Bush should live with in his nightmares for the rest of his life. Especially after wanting to send another 20,000 over just to prove a point for his daddy.

How do you think it makes the units in Iraq feel when they see Americans comparing Iraq to Viet Nam? Think it brings down morale? The majority of men and women over there fighting, believe they can win, believe they are winning, and that most Americans are clueless about the truth of what is happening in Iraq. One on NBC Evenings News a few nights ago said they feel like the American public is deserting them!

Iraq is not another Vietnam as far as wars go. But, politically they are the same. We need to have the guts to withstand this terrible times of terrorism we live in today. We cannot show a sign of weakness to this terrible enemy. Like it or not, if we leave Iraq, it does not mean the war is over. We will have a far greater war in the near future if we cannot stop this threat today.

You are right leaving is not the answer. And in regards to this being another Vietnam it is not. The only similarity is that there are still the anti war protesters out there. I will make a solemn promise that if I see one jerk even looking crosswise at one of our returning troops I will let them have it. What the returning troops from Vietnam had to endure is more than anyone should have to deal with. I will not allow that to happen again.

"It was the people that lost the war then not the military."
Your question is based on a hindsight, blaming opinion without factual data to back any of it up.
What do you mean "the people" lost the war??? I thought it was the president who decided to fight that war on foot? I thought the jungles, climate and Vietnamese tunneling systems were utmost challenge to the American troops? I thought a number of troops, due to the availability and harsh conditions succumbed to drug use? I thought China ultimately out-funded and beat the USA in that war? And after the USA left, Vietnam did not economically recover and could not hold-it's-own.
Will this be another Vietnam? Well gee, let's look at another aspect of this question and how America turned its back on our returning vets with physical, mental and emotional problems - without adequate medical & social services funding ... quite a few of the older homeless, mentally ill on the streets TODAY are former Nam vets. This is a distressing FACT.
According to your own logic, if YOU are not in favor of the war, then YOU are one of "those" folks who will lose us the war? So which side of the fence are you ~really~ on?

The people lost the war? What on earth does that mean? We lost 50 000 people in Vietnam and would have lost a lot more if the people hadn't at some point woken up to fact that we were losing our shirts.
We lost both Vietnam and Iraq the minute we stepped foot in the field. Bush has done more damage with his blundering incompetence than Saddam Hussein ever did with his malign insanity. 100 000+ dead Iraqis and plenty of new American GI bodyparts decorating Iraqi deserts. They ought to bury Bush right next to his rival so they can laugh together in hell.

I hope Iraq will not be another Vietnam. It is
a disgrace to watch these demonstrators
destroying this country. They are not Americans. These are the enemy within.
I agree with your statement. The people lost the war, not the Military.

I served in Vietnam, any loss of American lives is a price to high .
In Vietnam we had a reason for being there.(stopping the spread of Communism). If we had a true reason for being in Iraq things may be different.
Our military personal have done a fine and brave job doing what we have ask, however, this is America. We the people run this country!!!

The Democrats that voted to go to war should have your perspective. Of course, the Democrats are the one that sent the troops to Viet Nam and then turned on them. Bin Laden has stated that the US response in Somalia lead him to believe the US would not stand up to terrorism.
Leaving Iraq without a democratic government in place will just empower the terrorists - with more 9-1-1 plans.
