My husband started getting disability pay from the veterens. Everyone I have talked to says we don't have to report it as income on our taxes. I find this hard to believe, can anyone confirm?

You do not have to report it.

If he is receiving benefits from The Veterans Administration they are not taxable. VA benefits are not reported to the IRS by the VA.
If he is receiving benefits from the Dept of Defense they are taxable as they are looked at as retirement benefits from DOD.

Not sure of the answer but can point you in the direction to find out. Each city and town has a veteran's representative assigned. Contact your local government and ask who this is. Call them they'll know the answer.
Best of luck
