when i record from vcr it comes in colour but i am unable to do so with recording from tv. so also from camcorders output comes in black & white only. my dvd rcorder is PYE PY9-DG bought on Thanks giving day from circuit city in Tulsa.

This is because the video format in India is PAL. Trying to watch (or record in this case) a PAL source on an NTSC device will make it look like it is in black and white and the picture will often roll although many modern devices have a large enough threshold that it will be able to lock into the slower framerate anyhow. You will need a format conversion device to sit in between the TV and the DVD recorder to convert the PAL signal to NTSC. Hopefully your TV will show an NTSC picture or you will have to convert NTSC back to PAL as well!
