Since love is an emotion felt by all humans (unless psychologically impaired) nobody can claim to "discover" it.
As for the word itself- I assume you are only talking about the English word love and not its equivalent in other languages. Like most words, love has its own etymology that derives out of a shared cultural usage.

All answers pertain to Adam & Eve- it can be a self sounding word after the first meeting of them. "l" symbolising Adam's, O symbolising Eve's and Ve the sounds made when a person is panting. Later on since all these are put together it would have been called LOVE
Dont ask me the source,,,, it may be my weird thinking!!!!

Love is more than a word, the word just gives it a name.

Many anthropoligists believe love is completely sociological.

Many cultures have no word for love the way we do. THe definition of love is completely uncomprehendable. Mainly because there culture has no need for it. But yeah, many societies and cultures dont have the same type of love the way we think love is.

The word "love" was not discovered, it was invented the moment Adam saw Eve naked.
