Have a massive fear of Needles. Having a Blood Test

They send me into a huge panic. I start to hyperventilate & get dizzy. Also feel extremely sick.

So will the Phlebotomist,be able to keep me calm ?

I have a hard time understanding this. It's a little pinch. Not a big deal. And sometimes you don't even feel it at all.

I don't really have a fear of needles, but I do hate them. (Stems from having a nurse search for a vein for five minutes with the needle in my arm.) I would have someone go with you. I have them sit on the opposite side that the nurse is going to poke you so you are looking away from it. Have them engage you in conversation, so you aren't thinking about what is going to happen. Also, have the nurse not tell you when she is going to stick the needle in your arm, that way you don't have the anticipation of that five seconds before it goes in. If there isn't a friend or family member able to go with ask for another nurse to talk to you. I have found they are more then welcome to distract you because it makes their job easier. A lot of times they take blood from both arms, so when they switch arms, have the person go to the other side.

Good luck on getting through it!

I was once very afraid of needles, but I have managed to face my fear. When you are going to have your bloodtest, keep calm, relax, think of beatiful things.
