My 5 yr old dtr woke up with a fever of 101 orally. She complained of a severe stomach ache (literally hurt to walk). I took her to the doctor. He examined her and did a cbc. It was slightly elevated and told me to bring her to the er in the morning if she was still in pain so that he could do another cbc. If it increased he would send us to a surgeon because he suspected it to be an early stage of appendicites. No vomiting. The pain has not gone away but seems less severe than this morning. I've never heard of a 5 yr old having this but the doctor said it was common. Is this true?

Yes, it's common. I've been working when a 5yo has presented with appendicitis. Young children and young adults are most likely to come down with this.

If you aren't sure if you should go to the ER because the pain has lessened, then call her doc back and ask his opinion.

If she is still in pain and he told you to take her back to the er if she was still in pain, then what are you waiting for? If it is appendicitis her appendix could burst and kill her? It doesn't matter if its common, it only matters that he suspects it and needs to rule it out. Now go. Good luck.
