This bugs me a bit, but I can be at a store wearing regualr jeans. They are not tight, not short, no stains. They are a regular pair of jeans and women stare at them in front of me KNOWING that I can see them. Same thing at college; I can wear a regular plain shirt or a black jacket that looks normal and isn't tight. Women stare at my clothes which are plain for over a minute and I am only 5 feet from them. Why do they have to stare knowing I can see them? NO, it's not a lust stare and it's not a stare of interest, it's more like a hard stare. Please tell me if you have any good reasons it's rude and annoying!

No it's not jealousy or vanity. It's just plain rude I think. I'm not vain. In fact, I try to avoid people as much as possible and stay indoors.

Because people always have their own stereotypical perception and value of what a perfect utopia should be.... When they see something unusual and unfamiliar with their own typical notions of a perfection should be, they look and stare at you and inside their head they judge you. :)
This is super normal human behavior ever. Try not to take them seriously, it will pass and do your own thing what makes you comfort the most. Remember that this is your OWN life, not their lives at all. You live your own life, not other people. Besides they don't give you money to live your life, do they?

It's sometimes more unusual to see someone dressed simply & without make-up and the like than seeing someone dressed up in a mini-skirt & wearing a pancake on her face! Some may be thinking looking so plain is dumb or ugly, others may secretly wish they'd dare to go out like that without spending half an hour or more on their dress and face even if they only have to run to the store for two items... either way try not to take it too personally. Ignore them and if they stare too hard, wave :) I used to be very shy too but now I don't care what people do or say.

It could be admiration.Women like to check out labels, so they may be looking for a designer sign or label so they can buy some and look as good as you.
I agree that there are too many fashionistas out there trying to create a world where one can gain entry only by wearing the clothes that have been picked for you . Watch the movie "The devil wears Prada".
It also depends on where you live and where you shop.
You care, and you dont have to. They are simply admiring you, so toss that hair and wiggle the butt as you walk past them,
Who was that person who said -"If you have it, flaunt it"
Then do not shop there again.

Its just human nature.
Some people have not been trained growing up that it is rude to stare.
also some people are natural voyeurs but there are many reasons why people stare.
The Mormons believe that we all were in heaven and when we came to earth that a veil of forget fullness was put over our eyes and when we see someone that we knew in heaven that we are aware of the that person but it is on a deep level of understanding.
Yeah I know I don't buy it either as I don;'t believe in the Mormon faith but I did hear that story...but what do I know?

Maybe you have an uncommon face. Or maybe they think you just dress too plain. Or maybe they are thinking something else and they stare because they are too concentrated on their thoughts. Or they may admire you. You can't make them stop. It lies deep in the human nature. Don't be bothered by their stare, be relaxed and confident.

Since actual 'staring' is a form of human communication, you'd have to ask each individual who did it to ascertain their reasons. If you did this enough, you might find a consensus.

Maybe you just imagine that people are looking at you. I often have the feeling that people are looking at me weird, even though I don't look strange, just normal, i.e. not really fat, not really skinny, not hideously ugly, not stunningly beautiful, not trashy, no warts or whatever. My husband always says I'm just imagining that people are looking at me weird. Maybe you are just attractive and the other women are just looking to see what they can copy. Try not to worry about it.

Maybe they're jealous that you can look good in simple clothing.

Just stare back. Or say, "is something wrong?"
