each time i when go for update of windows, it asks me that my windows is not genuine one and requires active x contol and ask me the serial number of windows for updating. when i purchased the windows i even donot provided the windows cd for the said pc. could u please help me in the matter?

There should be a Product Key label on the bottom of the laptop. Where did you purchase it? A legit dealer should give you a legit copy.
