i then put my card back in and asked for £200 and it didnt let me down it paid out £400, plus the receipt only said £200. now i have heard from a friend that banks can try and claim the money back has this happened to anybody on here or am i ok to spend it, it was one of those kind of portable ones that charge you £1.75 everytime you use it.

Somebody probably programmed it with the wrong denominations (20s instead of 10s). It happens occasionally.
Don't spend the money if you don't have it to spare, as the company can demand the money back after an audit of the transactions.

Sounds as if someone has put the cash cases in the wrong slots or the wrong notes in the wrong cases.
When the ATM machine is replenished it will come to light and they will be able to track when the cases were lost replenished and all the customers who have used the machine to withdraw cash since.
It depends who owns the cash machine and how much was lost as to how far they pursue the matter.
They are entitled to get their money back if they can prove that you recieved more than you should have done.

If the receipt only said £200, what can they do about it? Serves them right for charging you money in the first place! I would wait to see if I got a letter.

The Bank can ask if you would return the money to them, as its money that wasnt due to you. Let me ask you a question...If you had asked for £400.00 and the machine had given you £200.00 then you'd go to the Bank to sort it out wouldn't you..?
If that happened to me then I would HAVE TO return the money as I work for a major high st bank otherwise I would be stealing - which is technically what you are doing - sorry but you are!!
Sounds to me like the person who was responsible for filling the machine put the wrong notes in the cassettes i.e. £20.00 notes put in the £10.00 cassette - they would seriously get their **** kicked for that!!!
The question you need to ask yourself is: Is my honesty and integrity more important than £200.00 - if not then keep the money...if it is then give it back!!

if you say you got £200 and your receipt shows £200 how can they prove you got £400, but if your conscience always gets the better of you put the money in a draw and forget about it and if no one gets in touch with you then you know you can keep it

personally i would give it 2 week, then if nothing i would spend the lot in one go.
however, i scammed paypal for a measly £30 twice, and 2 years later i got a letter from a debt collection demanding £60.
they tried taking it outta ma account automatically so i cancelled the direct debit lol, and am only 15. it wer well funny when i gave the letter 2 ma prnts and wished em merry xmas.

Spend it before it burns a hole in your pocket. If it's in a club it will be hard for the security cameras to view your face so you have got away with you lucky bugger. Unless of course they look at the record of cards that have been entered into the machine......

They can try and clain the money back, I would suggest putting the money you got out into a high interest account. then if they ask for it back give it back, but you would have made some interest out of it.
They are going to know who has the money, as its all recorded on their computer systems.
