Lots of medications have, as side effect, memory loss. Also, people start losing memory pretty young, mid-40s, naturally. The best treatment is to do memory exercises. There are flashcards for that, for visual memory. You can also practice memorizing poetry, for auditory memory. Try walking also and remembering what you pass, for geographical memory. And just throughout the day, try repeating names of people you just met or talked to. Exercising your memory keeps it strong.

my husband's short term memory sucks! he's only 33. it drives me insane. i have to repeat myself over and over. he refuses to tell his doctor. he thinks it's not important. and that ginko crap didn't work either.
he did crack his skull open when he was younger, so that might have had something to do with it.
talk to your doctor about meds.
